The Man United fans drinking in the Transfer Tavern tonight are eagerly awaiting their opening game of their pre-season tour against LA Galaxy.
Manchester United kick off their pre-season tour of America against LA Galaxy this Saturday and will be looking to lay down a marker for the rest of their tour and the Premier League season ahead.
If Mourinho is going for a comfortable win, then maybe some squad rotation would be for the best to give everyone an initial chance at gaining some real match fitness.
However, if he is hoping to demolish the American side, then why not put out a full strength side and really test what they can do.
The likes of De Gea and new boy Lukaku will be raring to go this pre-season as they will be going into next season, hoping to push on for the title, or at least compete for it.
With that being said, here is the starting XI Mourinho should pick if he wants to demolish LA Galaxy….
David De Gea
The best keeper at the club and the best keeper in the world. David De Gea will play another huge role in Manchester United’s season in the 2017/18 campaign and LA Galaxy would do well to put one past him.
He will likely have a quiet game against the American side but when he will be called upon, he will be ready. A solid shot stopper with just about every quality you could want out of a goalkeeper.
Antonio Valencia
The player re-born at right back. Antonio Valencia brings a great level of experience to a young United side.
A long-time servant for Manchester United, it is likely his time with The Red Devils will be coming to a close soon, but he’s still got enough about him to hold off Galaxy’s forwards.
Chris Smalling
Despite rumours linking Smalling with a move away from United, he still has a lot to offer at centre back and would be a rock for any Galaxy forwards to try and get through.
He’s tall, strong, and got a smart defensive mind. A higher quality player than any Galaxy forward would be facing in their league.
Victor Lindelof
One of two United signing’s this transfer window. Victor Lindelof is known as ‘The Iceman’ to Benfica fans.
If that doesn’t scare the LA Galaxy forwards, not much will.
He’s young, and given that he’s a new signing at Old Trafford, he’ll want to prove himself. Expect a solid performance from ‘The Iceman’ in this game.
Matteo Darmian
Darmian only really makes this list because there isn’t really anyone better than him at left back in the side right now.
Well, there is Luke Shaw but we all know Mourinho won’t be playing him.
Darmian will be looking to nail down a first team spot during pre-season and this should be one of the games where he can put in a stand out performance.
Paul Pogba
Obviously Mourinho is going to pick Pogba. He’s the most expensive player in the world and one of the world’s best central midfielders.
If he hadn’t hit the crossbar more times than I thought possible last season, his stats would have reflected how good of a season he really did have.
Ander Herrera
This is a man who many thought would take the United armband upon Rooney’s departure, although that wasn’t to be, the fact that so many United fans thought that would be the case, proves how valued he is at the club.
An at times underrated midfielder, Herrera should have a relatively easy day at the office against LA Galaxy.
Henrikh Mkhitaryan
Mkhitaryan never really got the chance to shine last season.
He had his moments but he’ll definitely want to push on next season and show United’s fans what he can really do.
A quality winger who can provide plenty of goals and assists, and that’s just against LA Galaxy.
Juan Mata
The Spanish attacking midfielder has been one of United’s best and most consistent players since his arrival from Chelsea in 2014.
His passing ability is becoming of a modern Spanish player and along with his dribbling and goal scoring ability, LA Galaxy’s defence are going to have their hands full with him.
Anthony Martial
It would be easy to see why Martial wouldn’t line up against LA Galaxy.
The French forward is currently amidst his own transfer saga as it is reported that Manchester United have said they would accept £30 million for his services.
If Mourinho does decide to play him, his pace, strength and ability on the ball will give the Galaxy defenders headaches all game long.
Romelu Lukaku
He’s got to play. Manchester United new boy Lukaku will be raring to go come the 15th of July.
It will be the first time he steps out in a Man United shirt and although it isn’t a competitive game, he’ll be well up for getting himself on the score sheet early on to prove the money spent wasn’t a waste.
