4-2-3-1: Pochetino’s Tottenham XI to take revenge upon Monaco on Tuesday

Spurs are back in Champions League action next week and standing in their way is Monaco, and their fans here in the Tavern are a little worried, to say the least.

The French giants frustrated Mauricio Pochettino’s team at Wembley in the reverse fixture, taking a 2-1 away to give their hopes of qualifying from the group a real boost.

But with the knockout stages very much in-sight for Tottenham, plenty of attention will turn to their away game in the Champions League next game in a match they could very much do with winning.

And even the Spurs-mad landlord in the pub is feeling nervous and he’s normally as cool as a cucumber.

If they are to come away with anything in the game they’re going to need to get team selection right, something that has been a real talking point at White Hart Lane this season.

So with that in mind, here’s our Spurs XI that we think will get all three points against Monaco on Tuesday…

Hugo Lloris

Perhaps the easiest choice in this team is Hugo Lloris, who has been a solid choice in-between the Spurs sticks for a few years now.

Kyle Walker

One of the England players on Spurs’ books that is available for selection is Kyle Walker, who will play if no injuries hamper him in the meantime.

He’s a fantastic attacking option for Tottenham and was good for England in their games against Scotland and Spain too.

Eric Dier

Dier didn’t have the best time of it for England this week but he’s expected to slot in at centre-back for Spurs against Monaco.

A couple of injuries have hampered Spurs’ selection in defence in recent weeks and the young Englishman is expected to fill-in alongside Jan Vertonghen as he has done on many occasions in the past.

Jan Vertonghen

Jan Vertonghen is a real first-team regular in this Spurs side and there is little chance of him being de-throned any time soon.

The Belgian international has turned into quite the stalwart since arriving in the Premier League and he’ll be hoping to keep Radamel Falcao quiet during the game.

Danny Rose

Danny Rose is now back to full fitness and is very much showing why he is one of England’s best left-backs in the world right now.

He seems to have really worked on his defensive game in weeks gone by and is looking strong going into a tough run of games for Spurs.

Victor Wanyama

Wanyamayamaymayma

Was substituted for Kenya in the week and whilst this is not expected to be injury-based, Spurs will hope to have him fit for the game in France.

He’s a key player in this set-up and brings a real robustness to the Spurs team.

Mousa Dembele

mousa

Was an original injury concern for the game but he’s now thought to be in contention for a full return to the team.

He’s the man that brings the flair to the Spurs midfield and alongside the solid Wanyama, Spurs will be confident of a win in France.

Christian Eriksen

Christian Eriksen is a man that really pulls the strings in the Spurs forward line these days and he’s going to be a big part of any potential Spurs win in the week.

He’s tricky, gets forward well and has fantastic delivery. If he is in good form, Spurs should bring all three points back to England.

Mousa Sissoko

moussy

Moussa Sissoko has found it hard getting a starting berth since his summer move from Newcastle.

Though with Erik Lamela struggling with injury, it’s likely the Frenchman will get the nod.

He brings so much pace and power to Spurs’ forward line and he’s still waiting to hit his best form too.

Son Heung-min

South Korean international Son Heung-min has dropped off the radar in recent weeks but that doesn’t stop him from being a very useful player in this Spurs XI.

He’s quick, agile and full of skill and if he can get back to his best, he’ll be a massive asset during the game in Monaco.

Harry Kane

kanekane

Harry Kane is the main man in this Spurs attack and he’s been getting better since coming back from injury.

He’ll be looking to add to his haul in the coming weeks, starting with Tottenham’s Champions League campaign on Tuesday evening.

If he has a good game, Spurs should win this one pretty comfortably.
