Much has been made about just what Tottenham had lost within their ranks this season, which was proving to be a stark contrast to last term.
Still, many of our north London locals in the Transfer Tavern believe their problems have perhaps overblown this season and were delighted to see their side win against Burnley.
After falling behind against the Clarets, Mauricio Pochettino’s side managed to show enough character to come back and claim all three points.
That comeback was as much as a boost psychologically as it was in terms of points and those on Hotspur Way have been praying it helps them turn the corner.
Finishing in the Top 4 is not yet out of reach, so a win against Southampton on the south coast on Wednesday is crucial in sparking the fire in that regard.
With that in mind, here’s the XI he should field to dispose of his former club.
GK: Hugo Lloris
Undoubtedly one of the best stoppers in the world, Hugo Lloris’ place in the first-team is without question in the slightest.
The Frenchman is crucial to keep Spurs in games, as he has done this season time and time again.
RB: Kyle Walker
Perhaps not getting as many plaudits as last season, though Kyle Walker is continuing his good work in defence.
One of the best all-around defenders in the league.
CB: Jan Vertonghen
Not as important as the man we’re about to mention, though Jan Vertonghen’s presence in central defence is a perfect foil for his compatriot.
Really is a stalwart these days.
CB: Toby Alderweireld
Really is one of Spurs’ most crucial players, Toby Alderweireld’s absence for almost two months was a huge part of the reasons they hit a roadblock earlier this season.
LB: Danny Rose
Much like Walker, his rampaging runs up and down the left are a wonderful out ball on the counter as Spurs push forward.
CM: Victor Wanyama
Keeping Eric Dier out of the side is no mean feat, though Victor Wanyama’s stoic performances in the heart of midfield are doing exactly that.
CM: Mousa Dembele
Gives so much to the cause for Pochettino’s side and one of the strongest midfielders in the Premier League, Mousa Dembele is a formidable presence up and down the park.
RM: Moussa Sissoko
Not had the best of starts to life at the Lane, though Moussa Sissoko could be an option to use against a team as strong defensively as Southampton.
Powers forward at pace when at his best and could prevent Harry Kane from becoming isolated.
CAM: Christian Eriksen
Looks at his best once again, which is certainly worrying for Southampton.
A huge threat from set-pieces, he could help drag some of the Saints’ defenders out of position.
LAM: Dele Alli
Doesn’t provide some of the chalk-on-boots natural width a more natural winger would, though Dele Alli floating across from the left could give Spurs some of the unpredictability they’ve been missing.
ST: Harry Kane
One of the most lethal strikers in the Premier League, the England international will want to get back to scoring ways after drawing a blank against the Clarets.
