Manchester United got their season “officially” underway this weekend as they won the Community Shield at Wembley, much to the delight of a pocket of Red Devils in the Transfer Tavern.

They overcame Leicester City thanks to goals from Jesse Lingard and Zlatan Ibrahimovic, with Jamie Vardy replying for the Champions. Whilst it wasn’t the most competitive of matches, it was another chance for Jose Mourinho to take a good look at his squad going forward as he attempts to discover his best XI ahead of the new Premier League campaign this weekend.

And standing in United’s way will be plucky Bournemouth, who didn’t do too badly themselves last season as Eddie Howe guided them safely away from the Premier League trap door.

But this game will be all about United. How will Jose lineup, and what is his best team going forward?

Well look no further- he’s the Manchester United side we believe should start this weekend….

GK: David De Gea

Pretty standard choice this one. He’s been excellent for United over the past couple of years and he’s really ironed out those mistakes in his game he became renowned for in his early Old Trafford career.

Mourinho has managed to keep hold of his prized keeper, now he needs to step up once again.

RB: Matteo Darmian

Probably the most “natural” right-back United have in their ranks- expect Matteo Darmian to be given the nod by Mourinho.

The Portuguese manager has emphasised that he wants his full-backs to defend and out of the likes of Jones, Valencia and the inexperienced but talented Fosu-Mensah, Darmian will be the most likely to start.

CB: Eric Bailly

The Ivorian was excellent in Manchester United’s Shield win over the Foxes, so expect the former Villarreal man to keep his place in the United starting XI.

Pace, power and defence prowess- this man has it all. Expect him to be a mainstay in the United team this season.

CB: Daley Blind

The Dutchman is set to start for the Red Devils at the heart of the defence alongside Eric Bailly.

His defensive adeptness and range of passing make Blind an excellent player to slot in the centre-back position for their match against the Cherries.

LB: Luke Shaw

The former Southampton man had a season to forget last year thanks to a horrendous leg-break.

But it was great to see him back and fighting-fit against Leicester where he looked extremely good indeed. He offers pace, excellent crossing ability and good vision on the left hand side. He’ll do well this season.

CDM: Paul Pogba

Having finally signed from Juventus, expect the Frenchman to bring a huge amount of stability to the midfield.

United looked a little shallow at times against Leicester City but Pogba would quickly sort that out, bringing huge amounts of pace and power to the heart of the United team.

CDM: Michael Carrick

The veteran signed a new deal this summer and it shows the United hierarchy still have faith in him going forward.

You know what your going to get from the Englishman and his calmness and defensive-mindedness will give Pogba the chance to get forward.

A safe, reliable option.

RM: Henrikh Mkhitaryan

Surely Mourinho’s new signing will start, despite only getting a couple of minutes in the Community Shield on Sunday.

We all know how good the Armenian is on the ball- he’ll offer goals, assists and plenty of endeavour to the United team as the hunt the Premier League title.

CAM: Jesse Lingard

Perhaps the hardest pick of the team but our choice is Jesse Lingard. Some had forgotten about the youngster after all the high-profile summer activity but he really showed his class on Sunday.

He took his goal well and was quick to deny any long-term injury problems after being substituted in the second half.

Proving he is fit and healthy, he should start against Bournemouth.

LM: Anthony Martial

Whilst he is technically being played out-of-position here, we saw the Frenchman operate as a makeshift left midfielder/winger last season and he played well there.

Gets the nod ahead of Rashford due to his experience, and he’ll bring bags of pace and quality to the United front line.

ST: Zlatan Ibrahimovic

Took his goal well against Leicester and unfortunately for Wayne Rooney and Marcus Rashford, it’s the Swede that makes our starting XI.

Expect him to repeatedly write the headlines for Jose’s side this season, where he will bring his character but most importantly, his quality.

He hasn’t been signed by Mourinho to simply make up the numbers- he’s here to win trophies.
