Despite an unbeaten start to life in the Premier League, it’s fair to say the Tottenham Hotspur fans in the Transfer Tavern have slowly watched their title optimism burn out in recent weeks. 

Ever since beating Manchester City, Mauricio Pochettino’s side have struggled to kill off teams and find themselves off the pace in the Premier League title race.

Still, the fixtures come thick and fast for the Argentine as his side welcome Bayer Leverkusen to Wembley (that still sounds weird) tonight in the Champions League.

Having drawn with the Bundesliga giants in the BayArena, Pochettino’s men find themselves in second position, behind Monaco, in Group E.

Simply put, this is pretty much a must win for Spurs should they want to ensure progression into the second-round without too many problems caused.

Should they find their scoring touch, it’s not hard to imagine the north Londoners storming to victory tomorrow night.

So, here’s the XI to help them do it.

GK: Hugo Lloris

There’s not much else that can be said about Hugo Lloris, whose excellent performance back in Germany kept Spurs in the game.

Simply marvelous.

RB: Kyle Walker

Perhaps the best full-back in the Premier League, his attacking enterprise is perfect for a must-win home tie.

CB: Jan Vertonghen

Classy as they come, the big Belgian is a crucial part to the stingiest defence in Britain.

CB: Eric Dier

Though Eric Dier has excelled in a midfield role over the past year or so, injuries have forced the England international back into defence, where he’s equally as comfortable.

LB: Danny Rose

Much like teammate Walker on the other side, Rose’s work largely goes unnoticed outside of White Hart Lane, though he’s simply vital up and down the flanks.

CDM: Victor Waynama

While not the most expansive footballer in the world, the mighty Kenyan helps give the side a solid platform from which to build and is seemingly loving life under Pochettino again.

CDM: Mousa Dembele

Spurs’ most important outfield player?

The bruising Belgian is one of those players who is only really noticed when not playing.

Tireless with and without the ball, he’s got the class to push on from his midfield partner, though the muscle to also help him out.

RW: Son Heung-Min

The stunning performances Son churned out with ease during the opening quarter of the campaign seem to have dried up somewhat, though the South Korean is a very dangerous option when floating in from a wide area.

CAM: Dele Alli

Following his dreadful experience with England at Euro 2016, it’s taken a while for Dele Alli to really get going this season.

Still, as he proved against Manchester City, he’s capable of just about anything on his day.

LM: Erik Lamela

Lamela is touch-and-go thanks to an illness, though is surely one of the major players Pochettino will be calling on if he can.

Graft and guile in equal measure, the Argentine is the ideal option to support a central striker from the left.

ST: Vincent Janssen

Having only scored penalties ever since signing from AZ Alkmaar, £18m summer signing Vincent Janssen in under pressure to really get going.

A huge night for the Dutchman, with a goal this evening likely to give him huge confidence.
