Tottenham are beginning to click this season now, and our local Spurs fans here in Transfer Tavern are beginning to believe this could be another successful season.
After a relatively steady start to the season seeing two draws and one win things seemed to come together at Stoke on Saturday, as the club brushed aside the Potters 4-0 in a repeat performance of last season’s game at the Bet365 Stadium.
There were a lot of positives to take from the performance including Harry Kane’s return to goal-scoring form as well as Dele Alli finding the net, and Ben Davies putting in a good stand-in performance for Danny Rose at left back.
Mauricio Pochettino will be hoping his chargers continue in this fashion as they take on Sunderland this weekend.
The Black Cats have had another dire start to the campaign under new boss David Moyes so a trip to the ever-improving Spurs will not be welcome.
If Spurs approach the game how they did against Stoke it could be another emphatic victory for them, and our landlord certainly thinks that’s possible if they go with this starting line-up…
Hugo Lloris
Lloris is world class and only won’t play if he gets injured between now and Sunday.
Kyle Walker
Walker will be relied upon to give Spurs width as usual but perhaps even more so with Danny Rose still in doubt to play on the other flank.
Toby Alderweireld
Spurs’ best defender, he’ll be tasked with keeping the former Spurs striker Jermain Defoe quiet.
Jan Vertonghen
Like Alderweireld he’ll need to keep Defoe out which, if they do, should ensure a pretty easy day for Spurs.
Ben Davies
With Rose missing from the game against Stoke and the one against Monaco, Mauricio Pochettino might not want to rush him back.
Davies has been a solid enough replacement and will probably continue here for this one.
Eric Dier
Dier is a pretty permanent fixture in Spurs’ line up now and so will surely play once more again the Black Cats.
Mousa Dembele
Dembele is free to start now he has served his ban and Spurs will be elated to see him back.
The Belgian gives their midfield another dimension and so the sooner he’s back the better for them.
Erik Lamela
Lamela is now an important part of what Spurs are trying to do in the Premier League and will cut inside from the right with Walker overlapping.
Dele Alli
Alli found the net against Stoke so will fancy scoring against Sunderland too, with him surely being in the starting line-up this weekend.
Christian Eriksen
Eriksen is the chief craftsman in the team and could have a field day against a wobbly Sunderland back four.
Harry Kane
The Black Cats felt the full force of Romelu Lukaku finding his shooting boots and they could face the same with Kane.
He scored his first of the season against Stoke and this game is perfect for him to add more.
