Liverpool fans have been drowning their sorrows in the Transfer Tavern recently after seeing their side suffer a serious slump in form.

Jurgen Klopp’s men thumped Arsenal 4-0 prior to the international break last month, but have since then failed to win any of their four games in all competitions, the latest a 2-0 defeat to Leicester City in the Carabao Cup on Tuesday night.

The Reds also went down 5-0 to Manchester City back on September 9 and were unable to beat Sevilla in their first Champions League clash of the season, while Burnley came away from their trip to Anfield with a deserved point last weekend.

And that set of results has seriously frustrated many of our resident Liverpool supporters, many of whom will be making the trip back to the King Power Stadium on Saturday for their Premier League clash with Craig Shakespeare’s side.

The Foxes have won just one of their opening five league games and currently sit 15th in the division, although they will surely have renewed confidence ahead of this weekend’s encounter having beaten the Reds on Tuesday night.

Nonetheless, Liverpool will be expected to bounce back and secure the three points on Saturday, and if Klopp were to select this starting XI, Leicester will not stand a chance this weekend…

Simon Mignolet

Klopp needs to make a decision about his goalkeeper, as the instability in that position may well be rubbing off on the rest of the backline.

And with Simon Mignolet having played their most recent Premier League clash against Burnley, and four of their five league games this term, it should be he who gets the gloves when they travel to Leicester.

The 29-year-old hasn’t always been convincing between the sticks at Anfield, but is an adept shot-stopper and arguably a more trustworthy option than Loris Karius, who was often dispossessed in their 4-0 win over Arsenal a few weeks back.

Nonetheless, Mignolet should get the nod on Saturday.

Trent Alexander-Arnold

Nathaniel Clyne is reportedly nearing a comeback from an injury he sustained during pre-season, but remains some way off a return to the starting eleven.

And although Trent Alexander-Arnold has missed two of their five Premier League matches this term, the 18-year-old should get the nod against the Foxes.

The England Under-21 international was an unused substitute in their Carabao Cup defeat to Craig Shakespeare’s men on Tuesday night, a clear indication that he’ll retain his starting place in the Premier League on Saturday.

Joel Matip

Liverpool have been suspect defensively for a long time now, and it is up to somebody like Joel Matip to wrestle control of the back four, and make sure they stop conceding silly goals.

The 26-year-old moved to Anfield last year and had a reasonably good debut season at the club, in which time he played 29 Premier League games for Klopp’s side in their run to fourth in the division.

And with five starts to begin this campaign, it’s clear that Matip is the senior centre-back at the football club, and thus he must stamp his authority on the backline in their bid to rediscover their mojo.

Ragnar Klavan

With Dejan Lovren’s fitness unclear ahead of Saturday’s encounter, it looks like Ragnar Klavan will start alongside Matip in central defence.

Like the Cameroon international, Klavan moved to Liverpool last year but was unable to command regular football under Klopp last term, finishing the campaign with just 20 Premier League appearances to his name.

However he, like Matip, will know that he must improve after the Reds’ poor defensive showings in recent times, and what better way to start than against the Foxes on Saturday.

Andrew Robertson

Summer signing Andrew Robertson has had to be patient in the early stages of his Liverpool career, but back-to-back starts suggests that he is firmly in Klopp’s first team plans.

The 23-year-old moved from Hull City last month and has since gone on to play two Premier League games for the Reds, although his starting role in their defeat at Leicester in the Carabao Cup on Tuesday was his second successive starting berth.

And the Scotland international may well make that three on Saturday.

Jordan Henderson

Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson came back into the side on Tuesday against Leicester, and should indeed return to their Premier League eleven when they travel to the Foxes again on Saturday.

The England international was benched by Klopp for the visit of Burnley last weekend after a tricky start to the season, but the Reds chief may move back to a midfield three on Saturday, and thus a recall for the 27-year-old could be in the offing.

Liverpool need to look back at what made them so successful at this stage last season to seek to replicate it, and that saw Henderson patrolling the midfield – thus he should return against Leicester.

Georginio Wijnaldum

Like Henderson, Georginio Wijnaldum was on the bench for the visit of Burnley last weekend, in what was the only Premier League game he has failed to feature in so far this season.

The Netherlands international moved to Liverpool last year and made a big difference in their midfield last season, and replicating that form will be crucial to their chances this term as well.

The 26-year-old started against Leicester on Tuesday night, and although the Reds lost the game, he must be part of Klopp’s front three at the King Power Stadium on Saturday.

Emre Can

Midfielder Emre Can was not included in the Liverpool matchday squad at Leicester on Tuesday, suggesting that he’ll play a big part in the Premier League clash with the Foxes on Saturday.

And no wonder, as the Germany international has scored two goals and laid on two assists in seven games for the Reds this term, following on from a fine end to last season – a campaign which saw him bag five goals and lay on two assists in 32 Premier League appearances.

Can has turned into a key player for Liverpool, and he’ll need to be near his best on Saturday if they are to end this troubling run of form.

Mohamed Salah

Liverpool have got to go back to what served them so well last season, a front three full of movement, endeavour, and creative talent.

And with Sadio Mane suspended following his red card at Manchester City on September 9, summer signing Mohamed Salah will have a massive part to play at the King Power Stadium on Saturday.

The 25-year-old has already scored three goals and laid on two assists in five Premier League games this term to suggest that he has already adapted well to English football, and Klopp will hope to see plenty more of the Egypt international against Leicester this weekend.

Philippe Coutinho

Liverpool need to get out of this rut, and that means calling upon your best players to make the telling difference.

And that’s why Philippe Coutinho must start on Saturday at Leicester, as although the Brazil international was subject of heavy interest from Barcelona over the summer, and indeed has only just come back from injury, he can make things happen when the Reds need it most.

He lasted 78 minutes upon return to the team last weekend and got another 45 minutes under his belt on Tuesday, so should be almost up to speed ahead of their crucial clash at the King Power Stadium on Saturday.

Roberto Firmino

Roberto Firmino has made a fine start to the new Premier League season, bagging two goals and laying on two assists in five appearances for Liverpool.

However, the 25-year-old needs to up it once again after failing to contribute in their last two league games, which has seen Klopp’s men lose at Manchester City and draw at home to Burnley.

The Brazil international was brilliant in the front three last season, and with compatriot Coutinho likely to start once again, Firmino must be looking to add to his tally against Leicester on Saturday.
