Rangers are on a very slippery slope in the Scottish Premiership and their fans here in the Transfer Tavern are growing increasingly worried by the week.

The Gers suffered their first away loss to Dundee in over 20 years last weekend after slipping to a 2-1 defeat and their dip in form means they’re now six points behind Aberdeen, who sit in second behind Celtic.

Whilst it was always going to take time for the Gers to adjust to life back in the top flight, it wasn’t predicted that it would be quite this tough and if the Scottish giants are going to get back to the top of the pecking order, they need to pick up European football next season, without a shadow of a doubt.

And with a game against bottom-of-the-table Inverness Caledonian Thistle coming up, it’s imperative that Graeme Murty gets three points as he looks to get his interim spell up and running.

So with that in mind, here’s the Rangers XI that our punters want to see selected for the game against Inverness…

GK: Wes Foderingham

Former Swindon Town goalkeeper Wes Foderingham has been in decent form this campaign but at times, he hasn’t been helped by the defence sitting in front of him.

He needs to ensure his players are organised against Inverness, who might fancy an upset with Rangers playing so poorly.

RB: James Tavernier

Rangers fans here in the pub have been surprised at James Tavernier’s decline this season and the former Wigan man is certainly not showing the same sort of form we’ve seen in the past couple of years.

The rampaging full-back needs to start improving on his defensive game if he’s to remain in this Gers first-team or Murty might have to start looking elsewhere for another option going forward.

CB: Lee Hodson

Former MK Dons centre-back Lee Hodson has come into the first-team in recent weeks and he’ll certainly have to step his game up moving forward.

Rangers are not playing well in the slightest and the pressure is on both from the board and the supporters and the next few weeks could be decisive in Hodon’s Ibrox future moving forward.

CB: Philippe Senderos

With Clint Hill trudging off injured in the 2-1 defeat against Dundee last week, it might be the job of Philippe Senderos to come back into the first-team.

The Swiss international hasn’t set the world on fire since his move the club but his experience could prove important as Rangers look to bounce back from this poor run of form.

LB: Danny Wilson

Danny Wilson came on in place of Clint Hill after the veteran went off last weekend and he had a decent game and looks set to start the match against Inverness.

Rangers certainly need some defensive improvements in the future and Wilson might want to up his game going forward if he’s going to retain his place in the first-team next season.

CM: Jason Holt

Jason Holt has seen match action limited in recent weeks but he could be set for a return to the first-team if Murty decides to shake things up for the game against Inverness.

Holt might not be the most inspirational of players going forward but he’s a sturdy figure to sit in front of the back-four and could be what Rangers need at this moment in time.

CM: Emerson Hyndman

American youngster Emerson Hyndman has impressed in the middle-of-the-park for Rangers this term despite their recent struggles.

The midfielder has been ever-present over the past couple of weeks and Rangers punters here in the pub are confident his development will continue into the near future.

CM: Andy Halliday

Pacy winger Andy Halliday isn’t having his best season to date but when it comes to providing a threat going forward, he’s one of the best options Rangers have.

Gers supporters like Halliday and what he’s done for the club in the past but he needs to discover some form to help them out of their current predicament.

RW: Harry Forrester

Harry Forrester missed a sitter in the game against Dundee but he was one of the brighter players on the day, despite only getting 15 minutes at the end of the game.

When he came on, Rangers looked a more dangerous unit going forward and if he can offer the same width he did last weekend, they should be able to comfortably dispatch Inverness this time out.

ST: Kenny Miller

Kenny Miller has carried Rangers at times this season and there’s no way he’s set to be dropped from the first-team in the coming weeks.

The veteran forward continues to bang goals in at a decent rate and he’ll fancy his chances against a lowly Inverness side this weekend.

LW: Martyn Waghorn

Former Championship striker Martyn Waghorn needs to start scoring goals if he’s to help to the Rangers cause and a big game against Inverness would certainly help his cause with the Gers fans in the stands.

He’s a good player with a proven track record at this level but he needs to find his shooting boots and fast – Rangers need to win against bottom-of-the-table Inverness or there could be serious trouble.
