Our resident Liverpool supporting punters are pretty content to say the least, after the club secured a point away at Old Trafford against Manchester United on Sunday.

Klopp’s team performed well against Mourinho’s in-form Red Devils, and were pretty unlucky not to come away with the three points, having led 1-0 for the majority of the match.

However, chat amongst the Liverpool faithful here in the Tavern has very quickly turned to Wednesday night, where the Reds travel to Home Park to play League Two side Plymouth Argyle in an FA Cup third round replay.

The Pilgrims managed to hold the Merseyside club to a 0-0 draw in the first match at Anfield, and the punters here in the Tavern are expecting Klopp’s side to prove too strong for the Football League side this Wednesday.

It’s set to be a lively atmosphere at Home Park, and Pilgrims fans will be hoping the club can cause a major third round shock and knockout the Premier League giants.

Our landlord thinks the Reds will win though, and feels Klopp should field this Liverpool XI to brush aside Plymouth on Wednesday evening…..

GK – Loris Karius

The German has had a mixed start to life since arriving at Liverpool in the summer.

Often made a scapegoat by many punters here in the Tavern, Karius has found it hard to adapt to life in the Premier League, and has been ousted by Simon Mignolet as the number one.

Our landlord though, thinks the 23-year-old should get a start against Derek Adams’ Plymouth.

RB – Trent Alexander-Arnold

The young right back got a proper taste of the big time with his start against Manchester United at the weekend.

He did very well, though, in keeping Anthony Martial at bay and so he’ll be hoping to take that into this game.

It’s a completely different prospect but requires no less concentration from TAA.

CB – Joe Gomez

Gomez is finally back for the Reds and should start this one.

He had very little to do in the game at Anfield against Plymouth but should expect to get a bit more thrown at him for this one.

There can be no doubt of his talent, though, and so he’ll be looking to stake a first-team claim.

CB – Lucas Leiva

Lucas seems to have become an orthodox centre-back option and should take up that role again here.

He’s likely to be the senior player in this side, too, and so should the going get tough for the kids he’ll simply have to take charge of proceedings.

LB – Alberto Moreno

Another senior player that should get a run out is Alberto Moreno.

He’s very much the back-up option to James Milner at the moment and that’s likely to remain the same for some time.

He’ll be expected to keep things tight at the back though with him that’s far easier said than done.

CM – Ovie Ejaria

At 19-years-old, Ovie Ejaria is a player for the future – but Jurgen Klopp seemingly thinks he can do a job right now.

He made his debut in the League Cup earlier in the season, and he might well be given another chance in the heart of the midfield.

The pressure will be off, but he will want to put in a good showing. A very exciting talent.

CM – Kevin Stewart

Jurgen Klopp clearly has a lot of faith in young Kevin Stewart, and he is likely to be given a chance.

A decent, all-round midfielder – Stewart is the sort of young player that every team needs, and so it is no surprise that Klopp rates him so highly.

You can always bank on him for a good performance.

CM – Georginio Wijnaldum

Adding a bit of seniority to this midfield, you would imagine that Georginio Wijnaldum will get a run out in the Cup.

After a slow start to his Liverpool career, he has looked more comfortable in recent weeks – though Jurgen Klopp will be expecting more from the midfielder.

There is a lot of quality and depth in this role, and so he needs to put in a good performance.

RW: Ben Woodburn

The Reds’ youngest ever goalscorer, Ben Woodburn has some work to do if he’s going to break into the first-team anytime soon. However, the burgeoning Welsh forward is certainly a huge talent and the cup could be the perfect platform to impress.

With Plymouth surely having to push on at home, there could be plenty of space for him to work his magic.

ST: Daniel Sturridge

An anonymous performance against Southampton in the EFL Cup saw the England international not being involved at all against Manchester United at Old Trafford.

The 27-year-old has a point to prove or he’ll surely be sold in the summer after a severe dip in form of late. A match against a League Two side, with all due respect, could be a pivotal moment in his future on Merseyside.

LW: Philippe Coutinho

If he were fully fit, there’s little doubt Philippe Coutinho would be rested for their trip to the south coast. Still, the fact the Brazilian is yet to start since his injury means he really is due 90 mins.

With that in mind, playing against Plymouth should be the next step in his recovery.
