Our Arsenal fans here in the Transfer Tavern are hoping for big things in 2017 with them still harbouring hopes of a Premier League title.

Hope had begun to grow here in by the bar amongst the Gunners fan base after seeing their squad apparently come of age earlier this year but that hope has taken a significant hit in recent weeks.

Losses against Everton and Manchester City have seen people begin to question their mentality and toughness yet again this year and so it really does remain to be seen whether or not they can get things back on track.

Certainly, our local Gunners are hoping they can for Arsene Wenger’s sake as it could just be his last season with the club according to The Sun who reckon he could be off to PSG next year.

A league title would be a fitting send-off to one of their most successful managers, of course, but our landlord has been thinking about who could take over.

Here are the four he came up with…

Diego Simeone

Simeone is one of the best in the game and is the kind of boss a club like Arsenal really should be going after.

A La Liga title and two Champions League finals with Atleti on a far smaller budget than that of Barcelona and Real Madrid is hugely impressive so imagine what he could do with Arsenal’s bigger resources. The Emirates side need a winner to lead them into this next era and Simeone would almost definitely make sure they never give up in a fight.

Ronald Koeman

You get the feeling with Koeman, with all due respect to Everton, that he is still waiting for that massive job to come his way.

Whilst he’d surely like to turn the Toffees into a massive club in this country and Europe he’d surely think seriously about jumping ship to join Arsenal. He’s shown himself to be a very adept Premier League manager and has the experience to command the respect from some of the best players in the world at the Emirates.

Unai Emery

If Wenger goes to PSG, this man will be available.

Emery is the man currently in charge of the club from the French capital but is not doing enough at the moment to make his job seem safe. PSG are making a hash of trying to retain their Ligue 1 title this season and that could cost him his job. He knows how to win titles in Europe from his days with Sevilla, though, so Arsenal would still be getting a winner if they appointed him.

Eddie Howe

Perhaps, though, the Gunners want to go with someone who has the potential to build a legacy.

Eddie Howe is widely regarded as one of the most talented young managers around and could be the perfect man to take over from Arsene Wenger’s substantial work. He gets his Bournemouth team playing in a very stylish way and that would certainly suit what’s at the Gunners right now. He’s only going to get better, too, and could prove to be a top appointment.
