According to MirrorFootball Barcelona are prepared to off load star striker David Villa, using him as bait to raise the cash for Pep Guardiola to land his three dream summer signings that include Giuseppe Rossi, Alexis Sanchez and Cesc Fabregas.
Guardiola has been restricted to a £40m budget as Sandro Rosell, Nou Camp president has made it crystal clear the Barca boss will need to become a wheeler and dealer in the transfer market and have to sell to be able to buy, as the Catalonian giants look to reduce their debt of £350m.
The Spanish hit man joined the La Liga and European champions 13 months ago for a staggering £35m from rivals Valencia. It’s believed the Danger man could be seen as their most saleable asset and with the likes of Manchester City and Chelsea, whom Barca are confident would snap him up for £40m+ if he were available, he is the likely candidate to be used to raise the funds.
Would this be a wise move on Barca’s behalf? I’m sure eyebrows would be raised if Villa left the Nou Camp this summer after only one season, an impressive season I might add where he struck the back of the net 23 times, spearheading the best attack on the planet to Domestic and European glory.
The mirror also reveals a source close to the club has pointed out Guardiola has a list of players he wishes to flog to increase spending money and he has indicated Villa is certainly in his plans for the future and he is keen to keep hold of him.
The world cup winner has an emphatic record for both club and country when it comes to finding the back of the net, and he is Spain’s record scorer earning 75 caps racking up a sensational 47 goals.
I just cannot see this happening and I believe Barcelona will look to stick to Guardiola’s earlier plans clearing out the not so valuable players.
This rumour will certainly be keeping Roman Abramovich awake at night as the thought of Villa and Torres leading the line at Stamford bridge come the new campaign is surely too good to be true for the Russian Billionaire… and you know the score, if something is too good to be true, it just doesn’t happen… We shall see.
