Our Liverpool fans here in the Transfer Tavern will be hoping that Jurgen Klopp can sort out the goalkeeping situation this summer.

Over the season so far, one of the biggest downfalls in Liverpool’s campaign is the goalkeeping situation. Klopp has alternated between Lorus Karius and Simon Mignolet for the majority of the time which has caused confusion within the defence and the fans in the bar.

Indeed, Klopp has settled on Karius of late and it seems to many of the regulars that Mignolet will be moved on this summer for a first choice keeper, with the former Bundesliga star playing back-up.

The latest rumour flying around the Tavern is that Jack Butland could be set for a monster £40m transfer fee that would eclipse any in recent times. With Stoke City facing the prospect of relegation and with that comes losing their best players, and our landlord takes a look at why bringing Butland to Anfield would be a great move for Klopp…

Premier League experience

In the winter window, Liverpool were linked with a move for Roma ‘keeper Alisson and however good the Brazilian shot-stopper is, the smart money would be to move for a keeper with vast Premier League experience.

This should pay dividends to potential title-chasing Reds next year, and having a stable ‘keeper at the back will start to flow confidence throughout the team, which is something that ‘s been missing this season in many of the games. With a better defence in front of him, imagine how good Butland could be.

England international

Indeed, Butland has been playing for Stoke City and while that doesn’t bring many big games like he would face at Liverpool, Butland is also an England international and should be the No.1 going into the World Cup this summer.

With the Premier League experience and big game know-how with the national side, Butland would be the ideal keeper at the right age to serve between the sticks for many years to come at Anfield. With Jordan Pickford the other side of Stanley Park, this could be a wonderfully entraining battle.
