Manchester United head into the summer hoping to capture the quality needed to make sure they can challenge Man City next season and finally bring the Premier League title back to Old Trafford for the first time since Alex Ferguson left.
Manager Jose Mourinho has done a decent enough job with United, and any other year he might well have found himself with a winners medal.
City though had the extra quality throughout, and it will no doubt be playing on the mind of Mourinho, who has already acted fast and signed Brazilian midfielder Fred, as well as young right back Diogo Dalot.
However, our landlord here in the Tavern thinks the club need to be signing even more talent, and one player he has mentioned to the United fans this week is Napoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly.
The big Senegal man, valued at £45m by Transfermarkt, has proven himself to be something of a man mountain over the last few seasons, helping Napoli to within touching distance of the Serie A title last term.
Koulibaly is a dominant type of centre half, who would no doubt form quite the presence alongside Eric Bailly, and with Phil Jones, Marcos Rojo and Chris Smalling in the squad, it would give United some formidable central defensive options.
He won’t come cheap, but Koulibaly would be worth every penny, and at 26, should well be entering his prime years in the not too distant future.
