The 2014-15 season is unlikely to be one that lingers too long in the memory of Liverpool supporters.
With three games remaining of the season, the Reds look all but certain to miss out on the Champions League, whilst their woeful performance against Aston Villa in the FA Cup semi final a fortnight ago means Brendan Rodgers has the unwanted tag of being the first Liverpool boss since the 50’s to fail to win a trophy within his first three seasons.
With Steven Gerrard set to end his 16-year Anfield career in just 22 days, it is fair to say Liverpool fans will not be too sorry to see the back of what has at times been a turbulent campaign.
It has not been all bad however, as a spell from January to mid-March saw the Reds establish themselves as the form team in the country – and they scored some special goals along the way.
Here we have identified five of the best.

Raheem Sterling v Chelsea
Raheem Sterling’s season has faded badly – unsurprisingly since all the contract talk began – but back in January he was very much Liverpool’s main man.
Playing in a new centre forward’s role, the 20-year-old showed what he was capable of in the first leg of the Capital One Cup semi final against Chelsea with a superb solo goal.
Collecting a pass from Jordan Henderson, Sterling turned and beat two defenders, before firing a left footed shot across Thiabut Courtois and into the bottom corner in front of the Kop to level the tie.

Philippe Coutinho v Southampton
The Brazilian has unquestionably been Liverpool’s player of the season, and he produced a moment of pure Brazilian brilliance to keep the Reds in the hunt for the top four back in February.
Southampton away represented a tricky fixture for Brendan Rodgers side, but Coutinho got Liverpool off to the perfect start, collecting a pass from Lazar Markovic and unleashing an unstoppable curling strike from 35 yards that cannoned in off the underside of the crossbar.
Jordan Henderson v Manchester City
Jordan Henderson has been another bright spark in what has been a disappointing campaign for Liverpool, and managed to hit a purple patch in terms of goalscoring in March.
His opening goal in the 2-1 win against Manchester City was particularly special, as the Reds future captain collected the ball from Raheem Sterling, cut inside Fernandinho, and unleashed an unstoppable curling shot into the top corner to put Liverpool 1-0 up against the title chasers.
Philippe Coutinho v Manchester City
The 2-1 victory over City will go down as the Reds most memorable fixture of the season, especially due to the quality of both goals.
Philippe Coutinho fired another spectacular winner, with a goal similar to the one he struck against Southampton just a fortnight previously.
The Brazilian has improved his shooting dramatically this season, and looks to have mastered those long range curlers when given half a yard on the edge of the box.
Jordan Henderson v Burnley
Liverpool fans will be mourning the departure of Steven Gerrard in just a few weeks, but if Jordan Henderson can produce goals like this on a more regular basis next season, supporters may not be mourning for too long.
Liverpool’s captain elect made it two stunning goals in just a few days, when he fired the Reds in front against Burnley with a superb first time half volley from the edge of the box.
A goal Gerrard himself would no doubt have been proud of.
