Chelsea’s woes this season have been well documented and the Blues, who won the Premier League title just under a year ago, have spent a large chunk of the year flirting with the wrong end of the standings.
With Champions League football set to elude them for next term, it’s raised a heap of questions as to whether the right decisions have been made along the way- and with so many big names departing in recent years, some Blues fans will have been wondering what might have been.
Chelsea have seen a fair share of players come and go at Stamford Bridge but, looking back, these five will be sorely missed- especially with the displays they’ve put in this season, as these players would have provided better options.
So then Chelsea fans, do you wish you still had this lot! Let’s take a trip down memory lane and see…

Romelu Lukaku

By far the biggest absence within Chelsea’s ranks, and a player they definitely should never have sold, Romelu Lukaku has been a star since his £28m move to Everton just over 18 months ago- and the Blues experienced his talent first hand as the Toffees dumped Chelsea out of the FA Cup this term.
With the Belgian forward openly admitting he wants Champions League football, Chelsea have been linked to his services once again- although, of course, Chelsea themselves will be without a spot in Europe’s elite competition next term, which means they’re likely to miss out.
Frank Lampard

An iconic legend that was definitely let go too soon, Chelsea fans had to endure the heartbreak of seeing him line-up in Manchester blue AND score against them. For such an influential player, seeing him play for another Premier League side was difficult.
Now he’s Stateside in the MLS, which is a tremendous waste of his talents to be honest, and having seen Chelsea’s midfield this season there is definitely a slot for him within the middle of the park at Stamford Bridge.
Kevin De Bruyne

Just like Romelu Lukaku, Kevin De Bruyne was sold way too early and the Chelsea fans have had to endure him lining-up for another Premier League side. Following a quality spell in the Bundesliga with Werder Bremen, he returned to England in an expensive switch to Manchester City.
He’s excelled with the Sky Blues, although the Citizens campaign has been inconsistent, and he’s exactly the sort of player Chelsea have been crying out for this season and he’d provide the killer balls for the attackers to tuck away.
Arjen Robben

A genuine world superstar who never quite achieved the full heights at Stamford Bridge, Dutch international Robben left Chelsea and excelled with Real Madrid, although his best years have come with Bayern Munich.
Robben is a player who could have become an iconic club legend in west London but, once again, he was sold before he achieved his best. With his time at Bayern coming to the end, it’s made it even more clear that Chelsea could still do with his services.
Petr Cech

Undoubtably one Chelsea will regret for years to come, the club sensationally allowed Petr Cech join a Premier League rival last season- and it was to London rivals Arsenal, where he has become a massive star.
With Thibaut Courtois having injury problems, and losing form at times, whilst Asmir Begovic has been continuously overlooked, Cech’s experience could have been extremely valuable to the Blues this term.
