With 22 games played and Chelsea just four points above the relegation zone in the Premier League, it’s fair to say that the Blues need nothing short of a miracle to save their season- and even that may not be enough.
Coming into the campaign as defending champions, nobody expected such an abysmal season from the West London side. With a lack of Champions League football next season all but confirmed, a major overhaul is needed this year.
Chelsea can’t afford to wait though and fans expect a significant amount of business in the final week of the window, with the striker-force needing bolstering significantly and the depth within the squad needing to be improved.
In order to save Chelsea’s season though, and somehow land European football next term, Guus Hiddink needs to bring in some players of exceptional quality- and our landlord has five targets he believes Roman Abramovich should go all out for this month.

Alex Teixeira
The Brazilian midfielder has been a target of Chelsea’s for a while and with his formidable goalscoring record this season, he could be exactly what the Blues are looking for. The problem though is Liverpool, who made their aims in the market clear with a bid yesterday.
Shaktar Donetsk rejected that offer though and Chelsea are convinced they can complete a deal with the Ukrainian giants, especially due to the fact that they have a wealth of Brazilian players within the squad that can help their compatriot settle.
Teixeira’s signature will prove costly, and it will be a fierce battle to land their man, but this is a signing the Blues desperately need.
Saido Berahino
The risk with buying attackers from abroad is that they’re not always guaranteed to shine, as Chelsea know all to well having seen Pedro Rodriguez, Juan Cuadrado and Mohamed Salah amongst their contingent to struggle in English football- two of whom have already moved on.
Therefore, buying British always pays off and Saido Berahino could be the spark of life that they need. The England U21 international has fallen out of favour at West Brom and seems destined to move, and as a young striker with an eye for goal he could be a massive part of the Blues forward.
With the Baggies reportedly raising his asking price to £30m, it’s a major risk for Chelsea. However, they need to try their luck because a continuation of their awful displays could lead to shock relegation.
Antoine Griezmann
The dream signing for Chelsea would be French international Antoine Griezmann, who has been linked with the club since his days with Real Sociedad. Now a star at Atletico Madrid, and a crucial player for Diego Simeone’s side, the Spaniards will not be keen to sell.
However, with Simeone heavily linked to the managerial position at Chelsea this summer, Griezmann could be persuaded to follow the Argentine to Stamford Bridge. If that loss were to happy, Atletico would surely prefer to cash-in this month when money can be spent- as they face a two window transfer ban.
Alexandre Pato
The striker most likely to arrive at Stamford Bridge is a player many in Europe will have forgotten about, as former AC Milan forward Alexandre Pato suddenly finds himself in the limelight once again. Whilst he struggled in Europe, his class is permanent and a price of just £8m-15m makes him a potential bargain.
Chelsea, understandably, would prefer a loan deal but with Corinthians desperate to get the player off their books the Blues may be left with little choice. However, with Loic Remy likely on his way out and Radamel Falcao out of form, and injured, the Blues needed attacking recruits fast.
John Stones
It’s not just the attack that’s been a problem for Chelsea this season, as their leaky defence has contributed massively to their downfall. This may have not been the case if the Blues very public pursuit of John Stones in the summer had proved successful- and Chelsea’s interest remains.
Convincing Everton into a sale won’t be the difficult task, as a massive price would be too good to turn down, but Stones would have to be convinced that Stamford Bridge is the place for him. With plenty of potential suitors, many of whom can offer Champions League football, Chelsea may find the task too difficult.
