5 Man United players who simply haven’t cut it this season

The Transfer Tavern is a hive activity again this evening and with it being open mic night, it looks like it could turn into a battle of the fans.

Our landlord looks to be having the time of his life but a group of Manchester United fans in the corner appear to be having a long discussion about their side.

Its been a disappointing time to be a Manchester United fan this season, with lacklustre performances leading to a disappointing league position so far and a Champions League exit.

With fans now appearing to have had enough and calling for manager Louis Van Gaal to leave the club, they are also discussing players who they feel have not cut it whilst performing for the club this season so far.

Van Gaal has spent a lot of money since taking over, and the following five names are of players the Manchester United feel haven’t cut it for the club this season.

Memphis Depay

The Dutchman arrived at the club during the summer with a great reputation of being a goal scoring midfielder, something that the club were severely lacking the previous campaign.

The 21-year-old joined United from PSV for a reported £25 million on a four year deal during the summer window. Performances from the winger have been hot and cold, with a lot more cold ones if we’re all honest.

Following 39 goals in 90 appearances for PSV, it meant high hopes for the fans at Old Trafford who were hoping for him to replicate those sort of stats for their side, but after just five goals in 29 appearances for the club, many believe that the player has not cut the mustard to date.

Marouane Fellaini

A player signed on the basis of form for former club Everton by former manager David Moyes.

It has been yet another season of struggle for the tall Belgian international who must be thinking what has he done to deserve such a poor run of form.

Fellaini was known for his great heading and link up play during his time at Goodison Park a thing the fans at Old Trafford have only seen rarely during his spell at the club.

To date this season Fellaini has made 24 appearances for the club scoring just twice.

Adnan Januzaj

The youngster has seen another season of inconsistency cost him place is the starting eleven at the club.

Louis Van Gaal was that reluctant to use the Belgian international that he sent him in loan to Germany for a spell at Borussia Dortmund.

Upon his return he was expected to hit the ground running and during one of his first appearances gave away a free kick which resulted in a goal that lead to a win for Southampton at Old Trafford within 30 seconds of coming on as a substitute.

Despite missing games through injury when he has performed for Manchester United has been rare throughout his time with the club.

Mr inconsistent for the club whether playing at at the back or on the wing you can never be sure what you are going to get from the player.

Out of his depth most of the time and a player who you would not normally see anywhere near a Manchester United starting eleven in years gone by, a player who has never reach the heights expected of him despite being signed by Sir Alex Ferguson, but even great managers get things wrong.

Bastian Schweinsteiger

The German international made the move to Old Trafford from Bayern Munich during the summer.

The fans we’re excited to have signed a player who helped bring so much success to Bayern during his time at the Allianz Arena.

But it seems as though the experienced midfielder has failed to adapt to life in the Premier League especially the speed and physicality of the league compared to the Bundesliga.
