Sunday afternoon saw Dougie Freedman relieved of his duties as first team manager of Championship side Nottingham Forest, after a string of poor results saw the club’s hopes of making the play-offs all but extinguished.
The sacking means that Forest are now in the hunt for their eleventh manager in five seasons, and the fans will be hopeful that any new appointment can help the club regain its position in England’s top flight.
Freedman was sacked following Forest’s 3-0 home defeat to Sheffield Wednesday a result which inflicted a fifth defeat in six games, and saw the club slip to 14th position in the Championship table.
Things had looked good for Freedman at the turn of the year with the club on a 13 match unbeaten run which had them sitting just five points off a coveted play-off position, but the form couldn’t be replicated and it has now cost the Scotsman his job.
Our landlord here in The Transfer Tavern considers the Forest job to be somewhat a poisoned chalice, but he has took the time to come up with FIVE managers who should be considered to be the club’s next boss……

Nigel Pearson
The no nonsense Pearson could be just the man to bring success back to the City Ground.
During his time as a player the central defender played for Shrewsbury Town, Sheffield Wednesday and Middlesbrough and was known for wearing his heart on his sleeve something he has taken with him into management.
Knows what it takes to get a team promoted from the Championship having led Leicester to the title during the 2013/14 campaign.
Nigel Clough
The son of Nottingham Forest’s greatest manager Brian Clough would come to the club knowing what was expected from the fans.
Clough played for Forest and has carved out a successful managerial career in England’s lower leagues taking Burton Albion from the Conference to the Football League for the first time in their history, before leaving to become manager of Derby County.
Sacked by Derby, Clough took some time out from the game before making his return to Burton when Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink left for QPR.
Paul Williams
Depending on how he gets on between now and the end of the season as caretaker manager Williams could bring himself into contention for the position.
Williams began his coaching career in America before coming back to Emgland and has taken in spells at Brentford and Wolves.
He joined Forest in December when previous coach Jamie Fullarton left the club to join Notts County as first team manager.
Paul Clement
Former Derby County manager could really show Forest’s rivals why they were wrong to sack him by making a success of things at the City Ground.
Harshly sacked by Derby with the club sat handily place in 4th position in the table, for not playing ‘the Derby way’ – he will be keen to prove himself as a manager.
Learnt his trade under Carlo Ancelotti during his time in charge at both Paris St Germain and Real Madrid respectively.
Roy Keane
Could the vacant job at Nottingham Forest tempt the fiery Irishman back into management.
Currently working as assistant to Martin O’Neil as part of the Republic of Ireland set up and a pundit for ITV.
Has had previous spells in charge at both Sunderland and Ipswich Town and would take no nonsense from the players to achieve his goals.
One thing is for sure the City Ground would not be a quiet place if Keane was announced as the club’s new manager.
