Reports reaching the Football Transfer Tavern today, suggests the great Manchester United clear out we have been reading about may finally be underway.

Brazilian midfielder Anderson is close to joining Italian side Fiorentina, in a deal that would bring an end to his six and half year stay at Old Trafford.

Anderson joined United in the summer of 2007 from Porto, in a deal worth £27million.

United thought they had signed one of the most promising young midfielders in world football, but for whatever reason – despite an impressive trophy haul – it never quite worked out for Anderson at Old Trafford.

The Brazilian never managed to establish himself as a first team regular under Sir Alex Ferguson, and has been a bit part player under Moyes during the first half of the season, despite United’s obvious midfield struggles.

Reports suggest United are willing to listen to offers of around £8million for Anderson, who has also been attracting interest from Fulham, and former club Porto.

If sold, it could well be the start of the much talked about ‘clear out’ Moyes is planning at United, as he looks to put his own stamp on the side after a difficult first six months in charge.
