As we go into November in the Barclays Premier League, the punters here at the Transfer Tavern are starting to get a clearer idea of how this season is going to unfold.
This season has been as entertaining as ever, with goals flying in, top players coming out of nowhere and plenty of surprising results, fans will be hoping for more of the same.
The usual suspects dominate the headlines, with Sergio Aguero and Alexis Sanchez both looking as strong as ever. However, the likes of Riyad Mahrez, Jamie Vardy, Chris Smalling, Anthony Martial, Dmitri Payet and Andre Ayew are just a few examples of players who have shown real quality this year.
However, while these names may dominate the headlines, let us not forget those who always, perhaps a bit unfairly, slip under the radar. Indeed, it is those players who do all the dirty work in the middle of the park, who break up attack after attack, but get little recognition for it.
Though they may not score a thirty yard screamer every week, they are just as vital to their side as those that do.

Steven Davis
The Northern Irishman plays a vital role in the Southampton midfield, but inevitably gets overshadowed by the likes of Saido Mane and Dusan Tadic.
However, Davis importance should not be underestimated. His ability to play anywhere in midfield is something that is a bit of a blessing these days, and he will work tirelessly wherever he has played. Davis has recently been adding more goals to his game, and looks to be as vital as ever this season for Southampton.
Heurelho Gomes
Unfortunately for Gomes, his time at Tottenham will inevitably see him remembered as an error-prone Premier League goalkeeper. However, what is more unfortunate, is that many do not realise how vital he is for Watford.
Gomes has been in fine form this season, and made a vital penalty save in a recent draw with fellow promoted club Bournemouth. He has been a huge reason behind the Hornets fine start to this campaign. His solid displays will surely help the Hertfordshire club reach the 40 point bench mark sooner, rather than later.
Fernando
A player who perhaps struggled in his first year in the Premier League, Fernando has improved immensely this year, and was as good as anyone on the pitch in the recent Manchester Derby. When you are in a midfield that contains the likes of Yaya Toure, Raheem Sterling and Kevin De Bruyne, it is inevitable that a player like Fernando may come under the radar.
However, Fernando’s willingness to do the dirty work for his team by expertly breaking up attack, means his fellow midfielders have been given far more freedom to bang in the goals. He will be as important as anyone this year, as City look to regain their title.
Marc Albrighton
The former Villa man is often remembered as the man who scored the 20,000th Premier League goal. However, Albrighton has far more to offer than just statistics, and has been in fine form for Leicester.
He has already chipped in with a few goals and assists this season, but has slipped under the radar due to the electric form of fellow wingman Riyad Mahrez. However, Albrighton is just as important to the Foxes, who if they carry on the way they are, will mount a challenge for European places.
Aaron Cresswell
A player who has done very well for West Ham United at left back so far, but perhaps still doesn’t get the recognition he deserves, most notably in the form of a first cap for England.
Many here at the Transfer Tavern will be scratching their heads as to why Kieran Gibbs, who has barely featured for Arsenal this season, has gone ahead of the former Ipswich man. Cresswell will hopefully get his chance, else it will be a huge loss to to the national side.
