Our Everton supporters in the Transfer Tavern have had a fairly underwhelming season so far.

Eleven games into the new Premier League season and they’re yet to see their side show any time of consistency or form that would warrant a top six finish.

Satisfactory victories over champions, Chelsea, a draw away at White Hart Lane and a 1-1 result against rivals, Liverpool, seems to be a string of ideal results that Toffees fans could take confidence from.

However, although the Merseyside blues are capable of beating the teams that they SHOULD be beating, they don’t seem capable of maintaining a consistency in form that allows them to do so.

The January transfer window will the ideal time for Everton to strengthen their side and mount a challenge for a top-four finish.

Here are FIVE ideal signings that we think would be ideal for Everton to target in January….

Michael Keane

The English centre-back has already been scouted several times by the Toffees and it’s understood that they have been left impressed by what they’ve seen. Keane is currently playing for high-flying Championship side, Burnley.

Keane started his career at Manchester United but never made the breakthrough at United. After completing several loan spells at Leicester City, Derby County and Blackburn Rovers, he made a loan move to Burnley before the 2014-2015 campaign before making the permanent move to the Clarets.

Now after his years of experience at different clubs, Keane could be more than capable of being a regular Premier League performer and would be a fantastic addition to the Toffees.

Riccardo Saponara

Another star that Everton have been keen to sign is excelling playmaker, Riccardo Saponara.

The 23-year-old has been in impressive form for Empoli in the Serie A and Everton have been keeping tabs on the Italian.

However, Empoli sporting director, Marcello Carli, is understood to have been telling interested clubs to forget about signing the Italian when the transfer window opens in January.

Saponara would be a similar style of player to current Everton playmaker, Ross Barkley.

Strong, fast and with a proper footballing brain with bags of potential.

It would be ideal for Everton if this starlet was allowed to make the switch to the Premier League in the New Year and although Empoli have stated that he won’t be on the move, it’s incredible what a good money offer can do to change people’s minds.

Matty Foulds

Everton already have a good reputation for making young signings and turning them into good footballers based on the opportunities that they’ve given them.

Another one to add to the potential list is 17-year-old, Matty Foulds. Foulds, a left-footed centre half, has only appeared twice for League One club Bury but has already attracted a variety of admirers from the English top tier.

Everton boss, Roberto Martinez, already has an idea of how gifted this young Englishman is and reports suggest that Everton are the front-runners to seal the defender’s signature in January.

He will then become an addition to the list of teenage defenders who arrived from the Football League, along with John Stones, Brendan Galloway and Mason Holgate.

Inaki Williams

With Kevin Mirallas and Gerard Deulofeu unsure about their futures at Everton, reports suggest that Roberto Martinez is keeping his eye on Athletic Bilbao winger, Inaki Williams.

The 21-year-old Spaniard has been at the Spanish club since 2014, making 24 appearances for the club and scoring four goals.

Williams is also currently a Spain U21 international, making only two appearances but showing bags of potential.

The Premier League has often had the reputation of the ‘best league in the world’, which will hopefully work to Everton’s advantage to try and entice the youngster to sign for the club in the New Year.

Williams would be ideal replacement for Mirallas or Deulofeu, admittedly a massive gamble as well but if it was to pay off, could be a key moment in Everton’s charge for a top-six finish.

Martin Odegaard

Now this signing WOULD be ideal for Everton, although it would most likely only be a temporary loan deal!

Norwegian wonder kid, Martin Ødegaard, has an endless list of admirers as his reputation across the football world has skyrocketed since his arrival onto the scene.

The 16-year-old attacking playmaker began his career Stromsgodset, Norway in the 2014-2015 campaign.

Ødegaard was scooped up by Spanish giants, Real Madrid a year later after he made 23 appearances for the Norway-based side and scored five goals.

It’s clear to see that Ødegaard is a hot prospect for the future and could be one of the top footballers in the world in years to come but at the moment, his game time at Madrid is limited.
