Chelsea’s transfer success ranges from the genius signings of Didier Drogba and Petr Cech to the Bizarre signings of Radamel Falcao and Scott Parker.
However one thing that is for sure is there are always a few select players that a club wishes they never let go.Due to Chelsea’s recent collapse this season, it is now more apparent how certain players could have helped Chelsea if they where given more time.
With a current crop of Chelsea flops proving their worth elsewhere lets looks at the ones which really could have changed Chelsea’s luck this season.
It is also important to note that while these players may not be the same if they stayed at chelsea,the quality that these players had could have eventually shone through if chelsea decided to give them a chance.

Daniel Sturridge
The current Liverpool striker has been a great addition for the reds since his move in 2013. Despite being plagued with injuries Sturridge has managed to score 42 times just 66 games. With Costa being a liability the striker would have been a great addition to the Chelsea team at the moment.
It is also important to note that Sturridge wasn’t played at striker for the majority of his Chelsea career and was utilized as a winger, a position that he wasn’t comfortable with at Chelsea. However with Sturridge’s injuries at Liverpool continuing to grow the striker may have been sold too soon but he still may have not been a key player at Chelsea if he stayed.
Andre Schurrle
Schurrle left Chelsea in February 2015 and despite being a recent departure, given the fact Hazards performance has been poor, it may have not been a wise move to sell the German international. While Schurrle has not done incredibly well in the Bundesliga for Wolfsburg, his pace and skill has been desperately missed in a Chelsea team that has lacked real hunger. With Hazards decline in form Schurrle would have been the ideal replacement to put in the Chelsea team.
Schurrle has also helped Wolfsburg become a force in Europe since the departure of big names in the summer. Schurrle helped Wolfsburg reach the Champions League quarter-finals for the first time in their history. So maybe Chelsea where to quick to rely on the power of Hazard and having Schurrle in the Chelsea team would provide the desire the ball that they seem to lack currently.
Romelu Lukaku
It’s crazy to believe that a striker of such quality slipped through Chelsea’s grasp. The Belgium international only racked up a total of 10 appearances for the London club after being touted as the next Drogba.
After signing a five year contract for Chelsea in 2011 with a reported fee of £17 million many people saw a bright future for the 18 year old. But after 2 fairly successful loans with West Brom and Everton the Striker was sold to Everton for £28 million.
His latest season at Everton has been unbelievable having scored 25 goals in 41 games for an under-performing Toffees side. With Chelsea’s striker season, Lukaku would be the perfect striker to fit into that line up. His ability to hold the ball and out muscle defenders is sublime and right now he could easily go for double what Everton paid for him.
You also forget that he is still only 22.
Filipe Luis
Filipe Luis will always be accompanied with Atletico Madrid and rightly so as the Brazilian has been outstanding for the Spanish club. He played a key part in Atletico’s shocking La Liga win and also boasts a Europa league victory in 2011-12.
However many people will forget a very forgettable season he had at Chelsea before returning to Atletico Madrid. It’s also not shocking that since his return to Atletico Madrid this season the Left back has been part of one of the best defences in Europe. It’s almost like he never left.
With Ivanovic and Azpilicueta have an unbelievable 2014/15 season Filipe Luis was mainly a substitute. However this season Ivanovic has looked poor and Luis would have easily got into the Chelsea squad with Azpilicueta becoming the right back. It seems that Chelsea really jumped the gun selling Luis after one season.
Kevin De Bruyne
Kevin De Bruyne seems to be on a mission to prove Chelsea wrong when they did not play him. De Bruyne only made 3 competitive appearances for Chelsea so there’s no wonder why he wanted to leave. In 2014 De Bruyne signed for Wolsfburg and in his season and a half their he immediately made Chelsea regret their decision. During his short time at Wolfsburg he managed to win the DFB- Pokal (The german cup) and was the Bundesliga’s Player of the year for the 2014/15 season.
To make matters worse De Bruyne in 2015 moved to Manchester city and is on his way to becoming one of the best attacking midfielders in Europe. Now while Oscar was the player that Chelsea wanted at the time, right now they would love to have a player of De Bruyne’s quality. He truly was a huge player that Chelsea just didn’t realize they had.
