It’s been a difficult season for the Manchester United fans in the Transfer Tavern, so much so that many of them are writing this campaign off and are instead discussing their future over a few pints by the fire.
Part of their discussion is the use of the emergency loan window, which opens on February 9th and runs to late March, and which players they’d like to see spend time away from Old Trafford to develop their careers.
Whilst many of our punters want to see these highly-rated aces integrated into the first-team as soon as possible, they accept that they’re simply not in a position to do so at the moment with so much left to fight for- so instead, they unanimously agree a loan period is ideal for these players.
Our landlord has taken a look at their selections and can certainly see these exits being approved, with some top-quality players potentially available for sides in the Football League to bolster their ranks with.

Adnan Januzaj
The Belgian winger was arguably the only positive from David Moyes’ ill-fated tenure as Manchester United boss but things have changed pretty significantly since Louis Van Gaal came in and Adnan Januzaj spent the first-half of the season on-loan at Borussia Dortmund.
He didn’t really catch the eye in Germany, though to be fair first-team opportunities were limited, and with competition in the United set-up from the likes of Memphis Depay and Jesse Lingard, a short stint away from the club could be beneficial.
Januzaj is a talented player, and is sure to have a bright future at Old Trafford, but a short spell in the Football League could raise his confidence significantly.
Guillermo Varela
The Uruguayan right-back was tipped with a Deadline Day exit, with a number of Italian sides keen on his services, but a move never materialised. However, with first-team football at a premium at Old Trafford a temporary exit could prove to be extremely valuable to the youngster.
Just 22, Varela has a rocky relationship with Louis Van Gaal and he wasn’t best pleased to see a loan exit blocked. Keeping him in England may appeal to the Dutch boss though, who remains unlikely to give Varela a fair chance at Old Trafford.
Paddy McNair
One a firm favourite of Louis Van Gaal’s, and used regularly, Northern Irish defender Paddy McNair has found first-team football difficult to come by. With his sights firmly set on the European Championships in the summer, McNair could be pushing for a spell away from Old Trafford.
The Championship would be a strong test for the young defender and would keep him on his toes ahead of Northern Ireland’s tournament in France, whilst it would also work out very well for parent club Manchester United.
Andreas Pereira
Many in the Transfer Tavern were surprised to see Andreas Pereira stay at Manchester United over the January window, with the Belgian-born midfielder being very outspoken about his lack of first-team opportunities this season.
At 20-years-old, it’s a crucial few years for Pereira to prove his worth to Manchester United but without regular opportunities it will be difficult for him to do so. Sending him on-loan to the Football League would be great for all parties and would ensure there’s no massive bust-up between the player and his club.
Will Keane
With Wayne Rooney and Anthony Martial finally clicking as a strike partnership, Will Keane’s chances of breaking into the first-team fold have taken a large blow. At 23-years-old, it’s make or break for the English striker at Old Trafford.
Just one Premier League appearance in five years for Keane doesn’t make for pretty reading and he needs to prove himself. That chance could come in the Championship, which would be great for the young striker as even if he doesn’t prove himself to United he could earn a permanent transfer in the future.
