The saga is over. The ‘special’ one turned ‘happy’ one has now become the ‘Red’ one. Mourinho at United. Who’d have thought it?
While Chelsea fans at the Transfer Tavern are disgruntled, the United fans are elated, as the move for one of the most successful managers in world football seems finally a step in the right direction for the club.
Having lost their iconic manager Sir Alex Ferguson back in 2013, the Red Devils have been in a state of turmoil.
The failed tenure of David Moyes, followed by Van Gaal’s – albeit improved – disappointing reign have left United fans craving the success their beloved Scotsman had once brought to the club.
Optimism now beams from Old Trafford following the appointment of a man who has 3 Premier League title’s amongst his glistening trophy room, and the faithful will hope the outspoken Mourinho can attract a number of big names to Manchester this summer, despite no Champion’s League football next campaign.
Zlatan Ibrahimovic is one of those highly tipped for a move to Old Trafford, however with arrivals inevitably comes departures to make room for those incoming.
Sky Sports claim that Juan Mata and Daley Blind are the first two in what is set to be an exodus up north this summer; so who else could duck-and-run before the Mourinho era begins? Our landlord investigates …..

Memphis Depay
The departure of the young Dutchman from Old Trafford wouldn’t come as too much of a surprise to many, as since his move from PSV last summer, the winger has been perpetually disappointing and failed to live up to his hefty price tag.
The 22-year-old recently stated his desire to improve on what was a dismal first campaign and ‘impress Jose Mourinho’ as he fights for his place in the squad – however he may not be given the chance with West Ham one of many who have been linked with a move for the Dutch International.
Ashley Young
Oddly, Young has been utilised as a make shift striker in the final part of the season, making a few cameo appearances for the Red Devils as they lack strength in depth in the forward area.
Young hasn’t done a bad job either, and despite having signed a new deal with the club only last August, the lack of playing time for the 30-year-old Englishman has been frustrating. That time is set to dwindle further under Mourinho.
Marouane Fellaini
The big Belgian and his famous flying elbows have been a hot topic of debate at Old Trafford, since his switch from Everton in 2013.
Some would argue the former Toffees midfielder is about as useful as a chocolate teapot, while others would say he adds a new dimension to United’s game, as his towering 6”5 figure (and elbows) undoubtedly cause all sorts of problems for defenders.
Whether you are pro or anti Fellaini however, he certainly isn’t a Mourinho player.
Antonio Valencia
One of most experienced players at United, Valencia is somewhat an Old Trafford veteran having been at the club since 2009 after he moved from then fellow Premier League side Wigan.
The Ecuadorian’s 7 years of service have been excellent, and the jack-of-all-trades winger has been a steady figure for United when needed over the seasons.
However, having spent much of this previous campaign out injured, the former Villarreal man has struggled to break back into the team and could be set to end his tenure at United this summer.
Phil Jones
Man of many faces Phil Jones has become a cult hero at United thanks to his calamitously hilarious facial expressions, but i’m afraid that is about it.
Desperately average during his 4 year spell at the club, Jones now struggles for game time and has turned into a chronic bench warmer at Old Trafford. Allegedly signed instead of a young Raphael Varane, it may have been one of Sir Alex’s few mishaps as United manager.
