Liverpool have been the busiest Premier League club of the summer transfer window thus far, having completed the signing of German midfielder Emre Can from Bayer Leverkusen yesterday.
The 20-year-old has completed a £9.75 million move to Anfield, and follows Rickie Lambert as the club’s second major signing of what is shaping up to be a busy transfer window.
Can is one of Germany’s most highly-rated young prospects, having previously been on the books of Bayern Munich.
He was allowed to join Leverkusen a year ago for £4 million, although Munich were keen to insert a buy-back clause into the contract of a player they have believe can go on to become as good as the likes of Toni Kroos and Bastian Schweinsteiger.
Rodgers has put a lot of faith in young players during his time at Anfield, and has been impressed with the progress Can made last season.
The German Under-21 international managed 29 appearances and three goals for Leverkusen, and Rodgers travelled to Germany to personally check on the exciting box-to-box midfielder.
Having activated a release clause in the player’s contract, the Reds are confident they have secured something of a transfer coup.
But who will be following Can to the Premier League title chasers this summer?
