If the truth be told, Tottenham’s summer transfer business is picking up rather nicely with the club having completed their third signing of the transfer window in the form of Toby Alderweireld this past week.
With the Belgian capable of playing in multiple positions, you’d imagine that Mauricio Pochettino has now entirely taken care of his defence with Kieran Trippier having also been brought in from Burnley.
The onus will now be on finding another combative midfielder to make up for the losses of Paulinho, Etienne Capoue and Benjamin Stambouli, not to mention sourcing a new striker to help share the goal burden with Harry Kane.
Out of all of the strikers available at present, many Tottenham fans in the tavern are urging Pochettino to make a swoop for QPR’s Charlie Austin who proved himself in the top flight last term, despite it being his first season at that level.
Like any club, Tottenham have unfortunately had to watch some of their sought-after targets join alternative pastures this summer and naturally, our Spurs contingent are concerned that the club won’t conclude all necessary business.
But with another month to go until the Premier League kicks off, there is plenty of time for Pochettino and Spurs to find everything they’re looking for.
However, today we’re looking at five players who they could regret not signing come the closure of the window at the end of the summer.

Yevhen Konoplyanka
While Tottenham supporters will claim they already have four out and out wingers on their books in the form of Erik Lamela, Nacer Chadli, Andros Townsend and Aaron Lennon, can any Spurs supporters really claim this foursome to be consistent performers?
Tottenham have been crying out for a reliable winger in terms of both goals and assists since the departure of Gareth Bale and despite Lamela seemingly boasting all the talent in the world, he simply hasn’t been able to produce it on a regular basis for Spurs.
One man who has been extremely consistent for both his club side and international one in recent times has been Yevhen Konoplyanka who was a losing Europa League finalist with Dnipro last season.
Having performed against England a few time for Ukraine also, England fans know what Konoplyanka is all about but the winger ended up signing for Sevilla when he looked to be a player that could drastically improve Spurs’ options on the wing.
Steven N’Zonzi
Heavily linked with a Tottenham switch this summer, Sevilla have now managed to beat Spurs to yet another of their top targets.
Yes, Steven N’Zonzi has joined the reigning Europa League winners after a £7 million fee was agreed with Stoke City and on the face of it, this fee is peanuts for a player who has continually got better as each season has passed.
One of the most underrated players in the Premier League, N’Zonzi is that physical presence that Tottenham needed to instil into their first team squad.
With late bloomer Ryan Mason improving all the time, Tottenham still needed someone with more stature who could really control the midfield but now they’ve missed out on N’Zonzi being that man.
Yohan Cabaye
Crystal Palace have won the race to complete one of the most eye-catching bargain swoops of the transfer window so far after striking a £10 million deal with Paris Saint-Germain for the services of French international Yohan Cabaye and what a coup that is for the Eagles where he will undoubtedly be their marquee man.
Now working with Alan Pardew once again, Cabaye is somebody who is still not 30-years-old while boasting a wicked ability from set-piece situations.
A fantastic signing for a mid-ranking Premier League side such as Palace, the feeling in the tavern is that Cabaye could’ve certainly done a job for a bigger team such as Tottenham or Liverpool and when you consider he is only transferring for £10 million, Spurs could’ve completed their midfield with both Cabaye and N’Zonzi for just £17 million.
Carlos Bacca
While AC Milan are are incredibly historic club with pulling power despite their lowly 10th-placed finish in Serie A last term, you still expected Tottenham to make more of a play for Carlos Bacca who traded Sevilla for the San Siro for £21 million.
Single handedly winning a second successive Europa League title for the Andalusian club last term, Bacca has been one the most prolific goalscorers in Europe over the last couple of seasons.
The Colombian international would’ve improved most sides and when you consider he joined a club not competing in the Champions League, perhaps Tottenham had more of a realistic shout of signing him all along.
When you consider Daniel Levy shelled out £26 million to land Roberto Soldado, a move for Bacca would’ve made sense.
Then again, Levy may have finally learned his lesson in spending big money on a player approaching his thirties with no re-sell value if they end up flopping.
Fernando Llorente
While there is still of course time to land Fernando Llorente who is still at Juventus, you feel this summer is the most likely time in which Tottenham could finally get their hands on of their long-term targets.
Interesting Spurs for a long while now, Llorente was on the fringes of Massimiliano Allegri’s squad last season and when you consider the Turin giants have already brought Mario Mandzukic and Paulo Dybala in this summer, not to mention already boasting Alvaro Morata, you can imagine there is room for bargaining regarding Llorente.
That said, Tottenham fans are yet to hear of any transfer speculation regarding Llorente but he is a striker that boasts all the attributes to succeed in the Premier League.
Tall so he can hold up the ball, not to mention boasting a fantastic goalscoring record at Athletic Bilbao, this is a deal that Tottenham fans would like to see Mauricio Pochettino get a move on in concluding.
