Liverpool fans in the Transfer Tavern don’t usually all agree with each other but there’s a unanimous sense that the Reds must find a quality replacement for Belgian goalkeeper Simon Mignolet this summer.
The former Sunderland man has failed to find consistent form throughout his time at Anfield and, despite being handed a new five-year deal earlier this season, the Belgian international is likely to find himself as second-fiddle.
Jurgen Klopp has praised his player in the media but it seems that he’s actively seeking a new stopper behind the scenes, with a wealth of quality goalkeepers mentioned by the tabloids as potential summer recruits.
With the club looking to build themselves back into Champions League regulars, our landlord is adamant Liverpool need to build from the back and start their overhaul with a quality goalkeeper- and he’s identified this lot as prime targets for the Merseyside outfit this summer.

Fraser Forster
Fraser Forster may be the best in Britain outside of the Premier League’s top fives, having impressed during his career with Celtic and Southampton. With the Saints this season, he recently went on a fantastic run of clean sheets.
Southampton face a stern test in the final stages of the Premier League season to achieve a spot in the Europa League but Liverpool seem set to get that chance- whilst there’s still a possibility they could land a spot in the Champions League, should they triumph in Europe this term.
If Liverpool can offer opportunities Southampton can’t, then the Reds could easily raid the Saints once again.
Marc-Andre Ter Stegen
The Barcelona goalkeeper enjoyed a fantastic debut season in Catalonia, winning the Champions League amid the club’s treble-winning campaign, but this term he’s been playing second fiddle to Claudio Bravo- and he’s understandably not happy.
Swapping Barcelona for Liverpool would be a big decision but with compatriot Jurgen Klopp at the helms, it’s certainly possible- although the Reds would likely have to pay an astronomical figure.
Jack Butland
Another player impressing in the Premier League, with Stoke City, is England international Jack Butland- who has a genuine task of overthrowing Joe Hart as the Three Lions first-choice goalkeeper. If that’s his aim, moving to Liverpool would certainly help his cause.
Like Southampton, Stoke are battling for European football and a failure to achieve that goal could persuade Butland to leave. Having said that, this is his first season as first-choice in Staffordshire so it may be too early.
Keylor Navas
The Real Madrid goalkeeper has impressed since the 2014 World Cup, which earned him his move to the Santiago Bernabeu, and he’s been very professional with quality performances and no complaints despite the club’s very public pursuit of David De Gea.
If Real Madrid get their man, Navas may well be on the move and the Premier League is a likely destination- and Liverpool could lead the chase, as not many other top-clubs have a vacant goalkeeper spot, although United may approve Navas as makeweight in a De Gea deal.
Timo Horn
Of all the goalkeepers on this list, Cologne’s Timo Horn would be the easiest deal for Liverpool to complete but the German ace would certainly not be inferior to those he’s alongside in this piece. Instead, he could be a bargain.
With Cologne amongst the minors in the Bundesliga, persuading the goalkeeper to move to the Premier League would be a fairly easy venture and Cologne themselves would certainly be open to a sale for the right price.
