Man United fans in the Football Transfer Tavern have had good reason to be in a buoyant mood of late, but their are now struggling to hold their excitement in with rumours flooding in the one of their stars may be coming back to Old Trafford. 

Paul Pogba. The next superstar. The new Patrick Viera. A future Ballan d’Or winner.

The midfielder is receiving a vast amount of attention at the minute after getting to the Semi-Finals of Euro 2016 with the French national team. In fact there has been very few times in his young career where he hasn’t received a lot of attention.

Leaving Manchester United after refusing a new contract in 2012, the Frenchman has forced himself into the Juventus first team and has never looked back since. Doing similar with the French national team, working his way up through the youth ranks, before breaking into the senior team in 2013.

Thierry Henry recently suggested the 23-year-old can go onto be one of the best in history, and there are few who can deny he doesn’t possess the ability to make his mark.

With a move to Manchester United being heavily speculated, there are some concerns over whether Pogba is suited for a return to Old Trafford.

Here are five reasons Manchester United should rethink moving to sign the Juventus player this summer…

Expensive

€120 million is the fee suggested for Pogba, and would blow the club’s previous record fee of £59.7 million for Angel Di Maria out of the water.

To spend such a large amount of money for  a player who has never scored more than 8 goals a season at Juventus is quite the risk.

Perhaps that money could be put to better use.

Unproven in the Premier League

Despite having played for Manchester United previously, he only ever made 3 appearances, and wasn’t able to make any sort of mark during his time at Old Trafford.

To spend £100 million on a player that has been playing for the best team in Italy against inferior opposition in
Serie A has the potential to come back to haunt them.

Man United are drowning in central midfielders

Carrick, Rooney, Herrera, Fellaini, Blind, Schneiderlin, Schweinsteiger as well as new signing Mkhitaryan, Manchester United have more than enough players in central midfield areas.

To then spend the large figure that Pogba would cost in an area where The Red Devils hardly lack depth seems unusual and unnecessary.

Without clearing out some of these players first from their roster, it would just cause tension and unrest amongst the team to allow another big name to join in such a heavily populated position.

Is he ready?

Although raved about for his performances in Italy, his early Euro 2016 performances did arise questions about whether he has the ability to excel on the big stage.

Though Pogba does seem to have shown what he is capable of in the latter stages of the European Championships, perhaps waiting for him to develop for a couple more years might not do any harm. He’s hardly going to get any more expensive, is he?

Lack of respect for the club

After leaving Manchester for Italy in July 2012, Sir Alex Ferguson criticised Pogba, suggesting the Frenchman showed no respect, and even going as far to say that a player with such an attitude is better off away from the club.

All fans want to see from a player is passion and devotion, and if Man United’s most successful manager is suggesting the player lacks respect, perhaps the club would be wise to listen before dishing out such a extravagant figure.
