On what has otherwise been a relatively quiet day in world football today, one man has dominated the headlines and that’s Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho who still remains as Blues manager despite a sixth Premier League loss of the season so far against Liverpool on Saturday.
On a day whereby Mourinho found out he’ll face legal action from sacked club doctor Eva Carneiro, more recently this evening, the Portuguese boss received a one-match stadium ban and fine from the FA in relation to his behaviour during the recent West Ham United fixture away to round off a terrible day for the ‘Special One’ or ‘Special Once’ as rival fans by the bar are now referring to him.
Last season’s Premier League champions are currently at breaking point and it’s hard to put your finger on just why the Blues have become an absolute shadow of their former selves, devoid of confidence and lacking in ideas to turn it around.
As the final whistle went after Liverpool’s comeback win two days ago, it wouldn’t have been a surprise to see Mourinho relieved of his duties, such was the manner of the West London club throwing away a game they went 1-0 up within in just under five minutes.
However, right now it appears as if Roman Abramovich is holding fire on a sacking with what Mourinho has wonderfully done for the club in the past seemingly still being enough to buy him the time that the likes of Carlo Ancelotti, Andre Villas-Boas and Roberto Di Matteo simply didn’t receive.
But with no room for sentiment in the modern-day game and Chelsea an unprecedented 10 points off even a top four place as it stands, here’s five reasons why the Blues must simply and regrettably sack their under-performing manager.

Because his ‘us versus them’ battle plan has backfired & is costing the club
We’ve seen Jose Mourinho attack bad refereeing calls like never before this season and lets have it right; the Blues have been on the end of more than a few stinking decision so far this season.
While we all accept that managers will rant and rave when the man in the middle gets it wrong, Mourinho has taken his whining and no-comment-type interviews to new heights, so much so that it appears as if both the FA and the referees are more willingly going against him and his team, even when the Blues are quite rightly owed a decision.
Having seen a Cesc Fabregas goal chalked off at West Ham United last weekend when it probably should’ve been given while Lucas Leiva remained on the pitch when he definitely should’ve received a second yellow at the weekend, things just aren’t going for the Blues right now and their manager – at breaking point may we add – just can’t seem to cope.
But Mourinho – seemingly incapable of being humble with the you win some, you lose some kind of mantra – continues to receive bans and fines that reflect badly on the club as a whole.
According to pundits such as BBC Sport’s Mark Lawrenson, Mourinho should be just getting on with it instead of throwing so much attention at referees and their decisions and you can’t help but agree with so many of Chelsea’s playing staff having not been up to scratch anyway this term.
Because no top four would mean a long & patitent route back
As mentioned at the outset, Chelsea are a huge 10 points off fourth-placed Manchester United and the top four as a whole at present and surely Champions League qualification for next season is in the balance right now.
While the likes of Manchester City, Arsenal and even West Ham United have been steaming ahead, Chelsea just simply haven’t been able to claw back points to trudge themselves back up the table and the ramifications of not qualifying for the Champions League are huge.
While some wise cracks from the bar are claiming that Manchester United still managed to sign the likes of Angel Di Maria while not in European competition with their huge cash reserves, we’ve seen the likes of Liverpool and Tottenham find it near on impossible at times to get back into Europe’s elite competition so soon and regularly to boot.
To only achieved Europa League football this term or worse, nothing at all, would leave Chelsea at risk of losing their better players such as Eden Hazard (albeit he’s been poor this term) while in turn, not being able to attract as higher quality a name for at least a season as well.
Because younger players would receive greater chances
It was referenced in a tweet by leading Chelsea fans’ YouTube channel 100PercentChelsea today that exciting Blues youngster Ruben Loftus-Cheek has actually played more minutes in an England shirt than an actual Chelsea jersey so far this season.
As we already know, Jose Mourinho was achieved success through working with a tight-knit pool of about 19-20 players each season but with so many of his usually consistent troops such as Branislav Ivanovic, Cesc Fabregas, Nemanja Matic and Diego Costa failing him this term, we still haven’t seen so many youngsters step up as players with nothing to lose in their absence.
While Kenedy, Baba Rahman and Loftus-Cheek himself have seen fleeting appearances here and there, Mourinho continues to drop a few of his players such as Hazard and Matic while replacing them with squad members such as Willian and John Obi Mikel instead.
With these players not being every Chelsea fans’ cup of tea anyway, a lot of Blues fans have been calling for youngsters and the likes of Loftus-Cheek to play more of a significant role.
Yet so far to date, Mourinho still tends to shy away from trusting youngsters from the off in a tactic that has long been criticised by many outside Stamford Bridge.
With Chelsea boasting incredibly successful academy ranks as well, it simply doesn’t add up that many of these players still aren’t deemed good enough for first team football.
Because eleven points from eleven games would cost you elsewhere
Quite simply, Jose Mourinho is living off his reputation right now and you’ve never said that about both he and his teams in the past.
Always a manager winning for the here and now, Mourinho is in the middle of a losing rut and rather plainly, doesn’t know how to get out of it given the fact he’s never been there before in his career.
Just eleven Premier League points from eleven games so far for a club the size and stature of Chelsea would get you the sack 9 times out of 10 but given the fans’ understandable affections for the Special One, Roman Abramovich just hasn’t wielded that axe yet.
But being an incredibly expectant bunch of fans no matter who the manager is, every next defeat is hurting Blues supporters who’ll all know that the club can’t simply afford to be taking seasons off from the Champions League to reach the pinnacle of European football like clubs such as Bayern Munich, Real Madrid and Barcelona.
Because his unsavoury antics can’t go unpunished?
Down the years, Chelsea fans have absolutely revelled in the fact that they don’t care how they play and they don’t care what rival fans might jibe because they play winning football under Jose Mourinho that ultimately brings trophies and that’s what everybody is in the game for, right?
But as alluded to on out first slide, Mourinho’s us versus them tactics have backfired massively this term and while Chelsea fans may currently think that the likes of the FA and BBC Football among other organisations are ganging up on the Blues boss to get him the sack, everybody seems to be revelling in the demise of the Chelsea manager simply because he hasn’t carried himself with class on quite a number of occasions.
Most infamously losing it with Eva Carneiro on the opening day of the season against Swansea City, the Portuguese club doctor is no longer employed and largely, is looked at as the unfairly treated party in the case.
With Mourinho seemingly whinging and moaning when things are going bad, yet having wound up so many opposition managers with mind games in the past, these are the reasons why opposition fans enjoy kicking him when he’s down.
To continue to act in the way he has so far this season is highly damaging for the club as a brand and you feel Roman Abramovich’s patience is being tested to the maximum limits as the unsuccessful weeks roll on.
