Eighteen months ago, the term ‘interim manager’ had hardly been heard of before.
But Rafael Benitez, Tim Sherwood, Garry Monk and now Manchester United legend Ryan Giggs have established the term as one of the most rapidly ‘new age’ terms in the game.
When David Moyes became the 10th manager of the season to lose his job two weeks ago, United turned to none other than their most successful player of all-time to manage the club through it’s most difficult period.
And after just one game – albeit a 4-0 win over Norwich City – the support for Giggs to be given the job on a full time basis appears to be growing.
No decision will be made until the end of the season surely, with reports suggesting United are still interested in Holland coach Louis van Gaal, Real Madrid’s Carlo Ancelotti, and Atletico Madrid’s Diego Simeone.
But is that really necessary, when they have a man who knows more about Manchester United than possibly anyone else ever could, currently in there as ‘interim boss’, who would jump at the chance to take the position full time?

The British media’s curse has done it again. A week ago, after Giggs won his first game in charge against mighty Norwich, both the press and some section of the United fans got too carried away. Their were calls to give Giggs the job on a permanent basis. To my amusement goalkeeper “Lindagaard compared Giggs to be United’s Guardiola” while Giggs himself, appeared to be sulking at his Friday press briefing. Giggs casted a doubt about his United future if he was not made United chief – well after today’s humiliating defeat to Sunderland (Moyes must be dancing in joy) while the press tomorrow will take Giggs to the dry cleaners but change course by standing up for the Chosen one. Lol

Giggs is not the right man as yet. He needs to complete his coaching certificates and then get a good, hard experience about management under the likes of Van Gaal. He true legend of United, but the last thing i would like to see, read or listen is him getting ashamed!
Ryan Giggs, great servant that he has been was like a deer in the headlights against Sunderland (who deserved their victory). He picked the wrong team, chose the wrong tactics and had no idea how to get the team playing. The players were slow, uninventive and a total waste of space today. We have defenders who can’t defend, a midfield that can’t create, and an attack that can’t shoot. All in all, an amateur afternoon to forget, led by a rookie and uninspired manager.
