Tottenham kept up their pursuit of a top four place with a resounding 4-0 win over Newcastle United at St. James’ Park last night.
Emmanuel Adebayor was amongst the goals once again, netting a brace to contribute to another crucial three points for Tim Sherwood.
Sherwood has lost just one of the 10 Premier League games he has managed since taking over from Andre Villas-Boas in December, and has set about dramatically improving a Tottenham side who looked dead and buried after a 5-0 home defeat to Liverpool shortly before Christmas.
Sherwood has come in since and gone about his business in a calm and calculated manner, with the decision to bring Adebayor in from the cold proving inspired.
White Hart Lane appears a much happier place than it was in the final days of Villas-Boas’ tenure, but there still remains lingering doubt about Sherwood’s long-term future at the club.
Sherwood has admitted himself that he could face the sack if the club fail to qualify for the Champions League, and with Liverpool performing ‘relentlessly’ in the Tottenham boss’ own words, that could be a very real possibility.
The uncertainty surrounding the long-term direction of the club has led to its fair share of ridiculous transfer rumours, regarding both possible incomings and outgoings.
