5 things we learnt from Liverpool on transfer deadline day

Chelsea don't consider Liverpool a title rival

Chelsea don't consider Liverpool a title rivalLiverpool manager Brendan Rodgers had an eventful deadline day in the transfer window as he secured three late arrivals at Anfield.

However there was no last minute panic to get the transfers through the door with all three new player watching their new team-mates defeat Manchester United to go top of the Premier League.

A £13 million move for Paris Saint-Germain centre-back Mamadou Sakho was confirmed while 20-year-old Portuguese defender Tiago Ilori was also recruited as Liverpool added bodies to their defence after the injury picked up by Kolo Toure during the Capital One Cup fixture against Notts County.

Chelsea winger Victor Moses was the final transfer of the summer joining the Reds on a season long loan from Stamford Bridge as Rodgers captured his eighth arrival of a hectic transfer window.

A possible goalkeeper as backup to Simon Mignolet didn’t arrive while Martin Skrtel ended up staying with the club despite reports of interest from Napoli.

Two players did leave the club as Italian international Fabio Borini joined Premier League rivals Sunderland for the rest of the season while once highly-rated striker Dani Pacheco departed from Spanish second division outfit AD Alcoron.

Moses, IIori and Sakho has joined fellow summer arrivals Toure, Mignolet, Luis Alberto, Iago Aspas and Aly Cissokho at Anfield for the new campaign while reportedly unsettled striker Luis Suarez also stayed with Rodgers’ side despite a wide range of interest.

Some Reds supporters in the Football Transfer Tavern regard it as a very productive transfer window and here’s what we believe they have learnt on a busy deadline day.
