It’s been absolutely crazy recently in the Football Transfer Tavern with Manchester United and Manchester City fans celebrating the arrivals of Bastian Schweinsteiger, Morgan Schneiderlin and Raheem Sterling respectively.
Given Manchester’s finest are seemingly going all out in their attempts to seek Premier League glory this season, their business has got our Arsenal and Tottenham regulars wondering, ‘what are we doing?’
Tottenham have most recently brought in Toby Alderweireld from Atletico Madrid and after that move got the thumbs up from 99.9% of Spurs supporters, all eyes are on who Mauricio Pochettino will target up top with Harry Kane desperately in need of support in the attacking ranks.
Striking 36 goals in all competitions last year, Harry Kane was one of the great success stories in all of England, let alone Spurs so when you consider both Emmanuel Adebayor and Roberto Soldado got just 12 goals between them in 2014/15, its clear the North London side could do with some extra reinforcements.
Spurs are yet to make a concrete bid for a striker so far this summer but you can imagine that both Pochettino and Daniel Levy are scouring the market behind the scenes to improve their front end.
With this theme in mind, could any of the following five players be the ones to help ease the scoring burden off Harry Kane’s shoulders next season?

Charlie Austin
While you can imagine that many clubs have enquired about QPR’s Charlie Austin so far this summer, the R’s are yet to receive an official bid from any interested party.
One of those interested parties surely has to be Spurs however given the fact Austin managed to plunder 18 goals last term in his first ever season playing at Premier League level.
With these goals ultimately being struck for a struggling side that was relegated to boot, Austin can clearly handle pressure.
With Danny Ings having bettered himself in joining Liverpool this summer, you’d imagine that Austin has half an eye on completing a transfer of similar ilk and Spurs looks like a good option for the player who is also interesting Newcastle United.
That said, the player has really revelled in his time spent at Loftus Road so far and the most optimistic Rangers supporters will probably tell you that maybe he’ll stay and relish the challenge of trying to get the Hoops back into the big time.
Fernando Llorente
Like Nico Gaitan with Manchester United and Yoann Gourcuff with Arsenal, Fernando Llorente is one of those long-term targets who seems to have been linked with Tottenham for what seems like an eternity.
A formidable marksman in his time spent with Athletic Bilbao, his record with Juventus is hardly hurrendous with the Spaniard having struck 23 goals in 65 Serie A appearances so far, despite his bit-part role.
If Llorente thought he had a bit-part role in his Juve career so far in Turin, he’ll need to think again this term with Massimiliano Allegri having moved to bring in not only Mario Mandzukic but also Paulo Dybala.
While they let Carlos Tevez return to Boca Juniors of course, the Bianconeri still boast the fantastic Alvaro Morata so on paper, Llorente looks a fourth choice striker at best at the moment.
The latest regarding Spurs’ interest in the player is that the Lilywhites are planning on offering Llorente lucrative wages as part of an £11 million deal and our resident Tottenham fans are monitoring this deal more closely than most.
Saido Berahino
Tottenham fans may be questioning his off-field temperament and questionable bad attitude but on the field, Saido Berahino enjoyed a fruitful 2014/15 campaign.
Unfortunately missing the European Under-21 Championships through injury, Berahino was a big miss for Gareth Southgate given the raw ability he possesses.
We saw at the tail end of last season following his brace against Chelsea that Berahino can score against the very best sides in the Premier League and this fearless trait is something Tottenham fans are taking a liking to here by the bar.
It’s somewhat strange that Berahino hasn’t been talked about so much regarding a transfer away from West Bromwich Albion so far this summer and what we already know is that he personally harbours ambitions to better himself away from the West Midlands after his ill-disciplined comments last term.
While talk is quiet right now, we reckon there could be some more firm interest in Berahino closer to the transfer deadline and we think that Spurs should be right at the front of the queue to bag a player who could well be joining Kane as part of England’s future frontline at international level.
Christian Benteke
Tottenham fans aren’t expecting Aston Villa boss Tim Sherwood to be doing them any favours any time soon but this still doesn’t stop them pining for a swoop for Christian Benteke.
The Villains’ prized asset seems to be a man in demand this summer and when you consider that quite a lot of strikers such as Jackson Martinez, Carlos Bacca and Luiz Adriano have been snapped up already, available options are diminishing by the week.
This could be bad news for Spurs with both Manchester United and Liverpool still heavily linked with the Belgian’s signature but you can’t rule Tottenham out entirely yet.
The latest on Benteke’s future is that Aston Villa are still digging their heels amid waiting for somebody to break his £32.5 million buy-out clause and Spurs fans admit that this type of fee is rather large for the Villa man.
Only time will tell on this one.
Michy Batshuayi
He may be pictured in a Standard Liege jersey in our image above but Michy Batshuayi currently plays for Marseille and is reportedly the latest striker on Spurs’ radar this summer.
Reports from The Mirror claim that Tottenham are now pulling themselves out of the race to land the aforementioned Christian Benteke given the £32.5 million fee Aston Villa are requesting so they are turning their attentions to Batshuayi instead.
A Belgian international (Tottenham seem to like those, don’t they?), Batshuayi scored nine goals in his first season with Marseille last term which is hardly ground-breaking but Spurs reportedly see him as an ideal partner for Harry Kane.
Given he is just 21-years-old to boot, this could be one of the more believable Tottenham rumours this summer given the fact Mauricio Pochettino likes younger players evidenced by the fact Spurs were chasing after Monaco’s Anthony Martial earlier in the transfer window.
