It has proved to be a difficult transfer window so far for Manchester United fans.
New manager David Moyes has spent the first month of his reign as Sir Alex Ferguson’s successor dealing with a prolonged saga involving Wayne Rooney, while trying (and failing) to make his first marquee summer signing.
For a long time it appeared that man was going to be Cesc Fabregas, but a deal now looks off the table with Barcelona repeatedly stating their Spanish midfielder is not for sale.
United have seen an offer of £30million rejected, and Moyes has revealed he is now likely to give up pursuing the former Arsenal captain.
And with Rooney still looking likely to depart, United need some signings in quick if they are to appease supporters who appear slightly disgruntled with their summer under their new manager so far.
With top targets out the picture, Moyes looks like he is going to have to be even smarter if he is to build a squad capable of challenging on all fronts next season.
