Chelsea endured a disappointing season by their usual high standards, with Jose Mourinho failing to win any silverware upon his return to the club.
Mourinho has continually insisted he is working on ‘a project’, and was keen to dismiss his teams chances of silverware at any opportunity last season.
Those kind of words will not wash next season however, especially since ‘the Special One’ has already begun planning for the 2014/15 season.
The Blues are close to offloading David Luiz to Paris Saint-Germain in a deal worth £40 million – money that will be used immediately to invest in new players.
Luiz was too much of a liability for Mourinho’s liking, whether deployed at centre back or defensive midfield.
Despite being a popular figure amongst Chelsea fans, the sale of Luiz will be viewed as a positive mood if Mourinho can use the money wisely in strengthening a side who struggled to score enough goals last season.
Here we have identified five potential signings Mourinho could target with that reported £40million from the Luiz sale.
