Our Arsenal fans here in the Transfer Tavern are excited for what should be the dawning of a new era come the summer. Unlike most new managers that arrive at a new club, the war chest won’t be a big one – according to reports, it’s likely to be around £50m which won’t be the best start to life at the Emirates for the new boss.

Arsenal are in desperate need of a revamp, with Arsene Wenger leaving it should open the door to a host of passengers out of the Gunners door. If Arsenal want to get back to the glory days if the early 2000’s, then our barman believes that a step up in the class of squad members is needed in key areas.

Regardless of what manager is incoming, the board should be looking at giving him the best start possible our regulars feel. Indeed, by potentially grabbing these 2 stars early on before their price potentially shoots up after this years’ World Cup, would be a great helping hand.

With that in mind, our landlord has chosen his stars and here are his TWO players that Arsenal should be going for ASAP…

Jack Butland

Arsenal’s first key area to start the revamp is in the goal. Currently, they have ageing Petr Cech as the first choice and a below the level of what’s needed David Ospina as a back-up, indeed, both need replacing ideally.

With Stoke looking likely to be relegated from the Premier League, a move for the £16.2m rated by Transfermarkt Jack Butland would be a good bit of business for the Gunners.

The new man needs a good foundation for success and a ‘Keeper with Butland’s experience would be perfect.

Fabinho

Arsenal have long needed a strong holding midfielder for many years now, and none come better than the Monaco man at the moment. At the age of 24, he’s a defensive midfielder who loves a fight in the centre of the pitch, which will please the Gooners.

With him picking up six goals and four assists so far this season in Ligue 1, he would add a lot into their current midfield and could be the turning point for Arsenal going into next season.

Transfermarkt rates him at £36m, which would be a steal in today’s market.
