Liverpool: Andy Robertson ‘worried’ by hamstring in latest episode in Reds’ injury crisis

Liverpool defender Andy Robertson may have given Jurgen Klopp a further headache after complaining about his hamstring following his side’s triumph in Belgrade.

Robertson sparks injury fears

The 26-year-old led Scotland to their first major tournament in 23 years after beating Serbia on penalties in a historic victory for his home nation, as the game finished 1-1 after extra time.

Back on Merseyside, the Reds have been crippled with injuries in their defensive department. Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez have recently undergone surgery for respective knee injuries, while Trent Alexander-Arnold limped off during their last Premier League game against Manchester City.

This leaves Joel Matip as their only established centre-back available for selection, despite struggling with his own fitness issues. Fabinho can also play in that position if required.

However, Klopp’s woes may have worsened after what his left-back told reporters after his memorable night in Eastern Europe – club legend Steven Gerrard previously described the Scot as “world-class” (cited by Bleacher Report).

When Robertson was asked by Sky Sports (via Football Daily) when he was due to take a penalty, he said: “I think I was next or seventh – but my hamstring had seized up in the second half of extra time. Just a bit of cramp.

“It was my left one so I was a bit worried that it was going to cramp up.”

Transfer Tavern take

This is potentially disastrous news for Liverpool and Klopp. Despite having purchased Kostas Tsimikas from Olympiakos in the summer to deputise for the Scotsman, this is the last thing that the German tactician will want to hear.

A cramp may not sound too serious, but with two further international matches to come it is definitely a concern. If Robertson’s strain does worsen or sideline him as it is, he will be Liverpool’s second casualty during the international break after Gomez picked up a serious injury while training with England.

If the Merseysiders’ problems weren’t bad enough, they may have just got a whole lot worse. Liverpool will have to wait until they discover the full extent of his injury and must surely urge Scotland to wrap him in cotton wool for the time being.

In other news, Liverpool offered Premier League veteran as a solution to injury crisis.

Journalism graduate from the University of Chester. Joined Transfer Tavern in October 2020. Liverpool fan based in the north-west who will not hear a bad word said about Lucas Leiva. Gained experience with Manchester Futsal Club and 90MIN. Strongly disapproves of short corners and foul throws.
