With the opening of the winter transfer window just days away, punters in the Football Transfer Tavern are getting a little more excited.

After Radamel Falcao reaffirmed his happiness at Monaco, Chelsea manger Jose Mourinho has started to look at other striker targets.

This list now includes Napoli’s Gonzalo Higuain after it was revealed that Atletico Madrid Diego Costa is also not interested in a January move.

Mail Online report that Atletico director of football Jose Luis Caminero has confirmed that the 25-year-old would be staying with the club, telling Marca: “Right now Costa does not think of leaving, he is contracted to Atletico

“He has renewed with us which is important. He has shown that he wants to continue at this club.”

Costa has strong reasons to stay in Spain as he is eager to represent them at the World Cup in his country of birth next year. Scoring regularly in La Liga would be seen as the best option to ensure that is considered for the Spain squad.

This has already seen Mourinho broaden his search for a world class striker with the former Real Madrid looking to Napoli striker Gonzalo Higuain, who he worked with at the Bernabeu.

The 26-year-old Argentine international only made the £32.5 million switch to Napoli in the summer to replace Paris Saint-Germain bound Edinson Cavani but such is the Blues’ desire for a top striker they are willing to give the Italian club a massive profit.

Mourinho is desperate for reinforcements in attack with his misfiring trio Fernando Torres, Demba Ba and Samuel Eto’o all continually letting the side down in front of goal.

Higuain has scored 13 times in 21 games this season, the same amount as the Blues’ three strikers have mustered in a combined total of 49 appearances!
