Any striker deal Leeds make this January will define their Premier League hopes

Leeds United manager Garry Monk

Delighted about their campaign so far under the impressive stewardship of Garry Monk, the Transfer Tavern has loved seeing the Leeds United supporting punters at their happiest in years.

The Whites look on course to finish in the top six at least, making the notion they could finally make a return to the Premier League a realistic one after all this time. Clearly there’s still an awful lot to play for and the precarious nature of life at Elland Road over the past few years will make for some nervous days ahead, though they have largely been impressive all season.

Which is why the January transfer market is such a crucial time to the Yorkshire giants. Some astute additions can help Monk in his attempts to restore the side to the English elite, namely in the strike department.

As you’d expect, Leeds are linked with a number of players on that front, including the likes of Lewis Grabban. Getting a forward in to support Chris Wood is of the utmost importance though at this stage of the campaign, simply getting more bodies in will not be enough.

Leeds have a genuine chance of getting back into the Premier League, so it’s absolutely vital Monk brings in the right option to supplement his clinical Kiwi forward and gets the deal right to push his side up the league.

Get it right and Leeds could be back in the big time. Get it wrong and the dream dies for at least another year.
