We at the Football Transfer Tavern thought that Arsenal may look to sell striker Lukas Podolski this summer but his impressive brace against Fulham yesterday has made boss Arsene Wenger publicly state that he wants to keep his man.
The German international failed to live up to his billing last season after his move from Cologne but two goals away at Fulham yesterday will have helped his cause to earn a regular first team spot.
Podolski has mainly played out wide when used in Wenger’s side and not his natural centre forward position but with the Gunners squad stretched and down to its bare bones; it appears the 28-year-old may get more game time this season.
Wenger wants new signings before the end of the transfer window but is not about to fund those deals by selling Podolski or any other player that will play in the first team this season as the Gunners appear to have overcome a sticky start to the campaign.
“I am pleased for him because he hasn’t started much recently more because of the balance of the team than his performances,” Wenger told Sky Sports.
“I am pleased because he plays with a lot of spirit and he can score goals. Everybody in the squad loves Lukas and I want to keep him.
“When a player doesn’t play he is not happy and recently he did not always start but if you look at his and Olivier Giroud’s goalscoring record it’s very good.”
Arsenal fans. Do you expect Lukas Podolski to improve this season? Would you mind if he were sold? Let us know your thoughts below.

Under no circumstances should he be sold. The best striker of a ball in the squad, tough enough to look after himself in the challenge, intelligent, good record of goals and assists despite not getting a decent run in the team and never whinges to the press. How he’s not a regular pic is beyond me!
In short we don’t want any player leaving the squared,we have money is not that we are and we a lot of game 2 play 4.and u want u sell ur best player u just but last season that is started blending with d term nw.
Lucas is hungry for goals. He is not shy in front of the post. He is an aggressive striker. He deserves more chances than Giroud. I believe Wenger favours and prefers French players.

Buy Di Maria and give Podolski more chances to play down the middle.
One thing with lucas he does come back to help others don’t get me wrong. He is fine player.
