Arsenal punters in the Transfer Tavern are fretting over news a batch of first-team players could leave the club during the summer window.
It has not been a good season at the Emirates Stadium; Arsenal crashed out of the EFL Cup to Southampton, are two points outside of the top four in the Premier League and suffered a humiliating 5-1 home defeat to Bayern Munich in the Champions League earlier this week.
Consequentially, many of the Tavern’s Gunners punters are calling for Arsene Wenger to step down when his contract expires at the end of the season. But according to The Daily Mail, Arsenal fans could also be saying goodbye to six players who are all edging towards the exit door.
It’s claimed playmaking midfielder Mesut Ozil has been offered a new contract – something Mirror Football have also reported on – but there are fears he’ll reject it, whereas the club are described as ‘already resigned‘ to losing Alexis Sanchez.
On top of that, second-choice goalkeeper David Ospina and understudy forward Lucas Perez are both ready to move on due to a lack of first-team football, whilst Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is also reportedly considering his future – still awaiting the chance to extend his contract beyond summer 2018.
Likewise, Jack Wilshere – currently on loan at Bournemouth – is yet to be offered a new contract, despite Wenger insisting otherwise back in November, casting doubts over whether the England international will return to his parent club.
That’s a whopping six players who appear to be preparing for life after Arsenal.
