Arsenal fans seemed broken after news broke about Lucas Torreira’s reaction to the Granit Xhaka debacle in yesterday’s 2-2 draw against Crystal Palace.

It was revealed by the club’s photographer Stuart MacFarlane that the Uruguayan was brought to tears following the fans reaction to Xhaka’s substitution.
The Switzerland international turned villain in yesterday’s draw after he threw off the captain’s armband, walked off the pitch and appeared to goad the north London faithful.
His actions were blasted by former Arsenal man and Match of the Day pundit Ian Wright, who claimed it wasn’t ‘captain’s behaviour’ (via BBC).
This isn’t the first time Torreira has been brought to tears during an Arsenal game. He was pictured crying during the club’s 4-1 loss to Chelsea in the Europa League final last season (via The Mirror).
Fans seemed to be broken by the images of the £49.5m-rated (per Transfermarkt) man as they took to Twitter to react.
Here is a selection of tweets from Gooners:
Very sad to see this. People need to understand that the players have feelings and hearts and no amount of money you earn can toughen you up from abuse from your own fans

Hate to see this

Exactly what I said when the same was happening to Mustafi. He’s also a very popular person in the team, so of course the whole squad is going to be affected by one of their mates getting vilified by the fans!! If the fans can’t see their actions are affecting the whole team..

I’m glad you did, Stuart. I was sitting right where Torreira was warming up and he turned towards the boo boys afterwards, shaking his head, looked stricken. So sad to see it all, and the lack of awareness that players are not machines.
