Arsenal fans have been expressing their happiness after the latest transfer news concerning Napoli attacker Dries Mertens emerged.
According to Times Sport, the Gunners have rejected the chance to sign the Belgium international as they are looking to acquire younger players. However, it seems as though London rivals Chelsea could be a destination for the 32-year-old with The Telegraph claiming that they will make a last-ditch bid for the forward today.
The club’s approach to transfers seems to have changed over the course of the last two windows with six of the seven players signed having been 26-years-old or younger when joining (via Transfermarkt). Mertens has been in decent form in Serie A, scoring four goals and assisting a further three, which would rank him joint-second when stacked up among Arsenal’s squad in the Premier League, though fans are seemingly pleased about not signing him due to his age.
