Many Arsenal fans are fuming after the north London club were linked with a transfer for Chris Smalling in the summer window by the Mirror.
The article suggests that it would cost the Gunners around £25 million to try and prize the England international away from arch rivals Manchester United at the end of the season.
Smalling is currently valued at £18 million according to Transfermarkt but the north London club may have to cough up more to persuade the Red Devils to sell.
The 30-year old is currently on loan at AS Roma and has made a total of 28 appearances in all competitions for the Italian side, scoring two goals and providing one assist according to Transfermarkt.
The Gunners may be looking for an experienced head to aid the development of 18-year old William Saliba next campaign with the youngster currently on loan at Saint-Etienne. Smalling certainly has the Premier League experience that may prove helpful in a potential partnership with Saliba next season, having played 219 times in the division (Transfermarkt).
However, these Arsenal fans do not fancy the central defender, with one fan branding the potential signing as a ‘terrible idea’ whilst another said that it reminds him of when they signed Mikael Silvestre, whom the Gunners also brought in from Manchester United back in 2008. What is this nonsense I'm reading that #Arsenal is weighing on going for £25m valued Chris #Smalling! So, we now scramble for Man Utd rejects! Reminds me of Sylvestre!

No mate. Terrible idea. Would rather go for a younger player with more potential. You all good? Mirror trying to get clicks. No way any club is thinking about transfers atm.
