Many Arsenal fans have hailed Mikel Arteta for his ‘deserved’ Manager of-the Month nomination for the month of February.
The Spaniard has been nominated alongside Sean Dyche, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Chris Wilder for the award after the Gunners, Burnley, Manchester United and Sheffield United have had a relatively decent month in the Premier League. The north London club have won two games at home against Everton and Newcastle United and managed a draw away at Burnley, achieving two clean sheets in the process, which their official Twitter page were keen to highlight (results via BBC).
Arsenal did suffer a blip, however, in the Europa League, where they lost their round of 32 second leg tie 2-1 to Greek champions Olympiacos having won the reverse fixture 1-0 in the first leg and bagging themselves another clean sheet in the process. Arteta has won half of his total games as Arsenal manager, winning seven in 14, drawing five and losing two: that game against Olympiacos and a home tie against Chelsea in the Premier League 2-1 after being 1-0 up with ten minutes to go (via Transfermarkt).
Ahead of tomorrow’s game against West Ham, this will be a nice confidence boost for the coach in his first ever managerial role. These Arsenal fans showed their appreciation for Arteta on Twitter, with one fan claiming his nomination was ‘well deserved’ while another hailed the ‘amazing’ progress since his arrival:
