Unai Emery didn’t get the winning start he wanted yesterday, however, not many tipped him to get it considering he had to entertain Manchester City in his opener. After the game, Sam Allardyce took to TalkSPORT to slate Emery for his tactics, claiming that it was stupid to try and play out from the back against the champions.
“It is the manager’s fault. Don’t ask somebody to do against Man City what you shouldn’t do. You shouldn’t play out like that against Manchester City.” [talkSport]

In theory what Allardyce said was correct. To try and play out from the back against Manchester City will always end in disaster and that’s what happened. The quality of players in the Gunners backline simply aren’t good enough to be knocking the ball around and trying to avoid the press of Pep Guardiola’s side. Although it’s the fact that Allardyce is the one making these comments that has given The Gunners a chuckle.
In his career, Allardyce is yet to win a trophy as a manager and his main achievement as a gaffer was getting the England job, however, he still managed to blow that after just a single game. So for the 63-year-old to single-out Unai Emery, a three-time Europa league winner, for his poor tactical display against Manchester City seems a little bit rich as far as the Arsenal fans are concerned.

As you can see, it’s clear that the Gunners have little time for Allardyce’s comments and will quickly forget about what the former Everton boss has had to say.
