Some sections of the Arsenal fan base have not expressed any form of respect to the news that former player Robin van Persie is set to retire at the end of the season, while others feel that he should receive some credit for his time at the North London club, despite leaving for Manchester United in 2012.
The Dutchman revealed on Thursday morning, via the Evening Standard, that he is going to call time on his 18-year career when he finishes the season at boyhood club Feyenoord. Van Persie joined the Gunners in 2004 and spent eight years under Arsène Wenger before making the move to rivals United, where he won the Premier League in his first season. The 35-year-old also won consecutive Premier League Golden Boots in 2011 and 2012, and has more than 250 career goals to his name.
Van Persie became a villain in the eyes of Arsenal fans when he scored against them on three occasions in his short stint at United.
