Some Arsenal fans have reacted sadly to Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s overhead kick goal against Olympiacos in the second leg of the Europa League round-0f-32, which received the February goal-of-the-month award for the club.
Aubameyang’s goal put the Gunners ahead in the tie in extra-time before the Greek champions stunned the Emirates by scoring in injury-time to knock Arsenal out of the Europa League on away goals. Notably, he also missed a chance in the very last kick of the game which would have put the north London club through on aggregate.
Arsenal only have one route into the Champions League for next season now which is in the Premier League. They have to finish at least fifth depending on Manchester City’s potential European ban, but they currently sit in ninth on 40 points. Still, their game-in-hand on teams above them against City at the Etihad was postponed due to coronavirus fears so they will remain five points behind fifth-placed Manchester United going into this weekend’s games (full table via BBC).
These Arsenal fans took a bitter-sweet reaction to Arsenal’s Twitter post, with one fan saying that watching the goal ‘still hurts’:

obvs was an amazing goal but the fact we went on to lose that game and get knocked out minutes later is a bit depressing

I hate seeing clips of that goal as good as it was, as it only brings back the pain of not going through.
