Arsenal: Fans slam Mesut Ozil after dismal performance during Burnley stalemate

Loads of Arsenal fans have slammed midfielder Mesut Ozil following his side’s 0-0 draw against Burnley on Sunday.

The Germany international found himself in a fierce midfield battle with the Claret and Blue opposition, as the Gunners were unable to break down Sean Dyche’s side at Turf Moor. He was substituted in the 63rd minute after being largely ineffective during his time on the field of play.

The £350,000-a-week man sat in front of Matteo Guendouzi and Granit Xhaka and played behind Alexandre Lacazette. Despite this, he was unable to create any major opportunities for the forward players, who were largely isolated due to Burnley’s resolute defending.

Ozil only made one successful cross out of four attempted, lost possession 11 times and only won one ground duel out of a possible five, as per SofaScore. Supporters echoed their frustrations on social media, with one saying that he was absolutely terrible due to his lack of attacking effectiveness. Another supporter described him as a “tragedy” for the club in a damning review of his current position at the Emirates.
