Many Arsenal fans have begged Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to sign a new contract as soon as possible after comments from Mikel Arteta have been circulating that he would like to discuss the striker’s contract before the end of the season (report via Sky Sports).
‘Auba’ will be 31 in the summer and his contract expires at the end of next season. If contract talks do not begin before the end of the season, then the Gabonese international will only have one year left on his deal at the Emirates, which leaves the club vulnerable as his transfer valuation is likely to go down. His current transfer valuation on Transfermarkt is £63 million, more than the £60m the Gunners paid to sign him from Borussia Dortmund two seasons ago in the January transfer window.
The club captain is currently the joint-top Premier League goalscorer with Jamie Vardy on 17 goals and shared the golden boot in his first full season with the north London club with Liverpool duo Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane, with all the African footballers scoring 22 goals each. He currently has 20 goals in 31 games in all competitions this season, which is impressive considering some of the games he has started on the wing (via Transfermarkt).
